Re: Is the macbook really worth the money.I'll have a look at nautilus when I get chance cheers.(Original post by poohat)
Finder is junk compared to Nautilus yeah, thats one of the things I dislike about OSX
On the other hand, I find that i use a GUI file browser way less than I do in windows/linux for some reason. -
Re: Is the macbook really worth the money.
Sorry, think you misunderstood, Nautilus is the file browser for Gnome (linux) not OSX.
It might be possible to use it in OSX through macports but I dont think this would be easy.
PathFinder is often quoted as a replacement for FInder on OSX, I havent used it personally because I find the idea of paying money for a file browser to be a bit weird. -
Re: Is the macbook really worth the money. They're good enough.(Original post by Hippysnake)
The closest thing to an apple product I've ever owned is Mr Kipling's deliciously good apple pies. -
Re: Is the macbook really worth the money.
Sure Macs are nice to look at but i find the OS crap. I had a macbook but sold it because i found it crap. Theres so much more programs, games, and software you can use on windows but the macbook has compatability issues and anoying trackpad that doesnt have right click button SO FUSTRATING!
The macbook is pretty, lasts a long time, has good security, fast and good for surfing the internet. Then macbook wont let you down.
BUT it's overpriced, theres other laptops that can do the same thing if not better for half the money!
And If your used to windows then MACBOOK is the wrong choice! -
Re: Is the macbook really worth the money.
It depends. Personally I think it is, but it was by no means a value for money computer. I mean I could have got a computer with identical specs for about 2-3 hundred pounds less. Personally I think it's worth the extra money, but that's down to personal choice and what you want to spend your money on. I mean it's by no means an infallible machine programs do sometimes crash, although this is rarer than it has been for me when using a windows OS, and generally speaking when a program crashes it hasn't taken everything else down with it.

Re: Is the macbook really worth the money. It may not have a right click button but the trackpad is better than any trackpad out there....it is super sensitive and smooth and there are a lot of customisations available---for the right button you just tap the trackpad with 2 fingers...(Original post by cjcmoney)

Re: Is the macbook really worth the money.No. I like Macs - they're shiny, well-built, have a smooth OS, and are good if you're into creative stuff like video editing, photoshopping and music.(Original post by goofymark13)
I've been looking at dozens of reviews on the net with this being the fairest I have found http://peaktimesonline.wordpress.com...acbook-review/ because I need a new laptop for university but is the macbook worth the massive price tag?
But for a student doing a non-graphics course, the expense really isn't justifiable IMO. You can get a very serviceable, good quality laptop for less than half the price of the cheapest Macbook Pro, with a much bigger screen and as-good-as specs to boot.
Of course it's up to you, but when you're no longer a student and you're scraping your pennies together for a house deposit or a car or bills or whatever, I think you'll regret spending £1000+ on a laptop you don't really need. -
Re: Is the macbook really worth the money. Here's a comparison: http://www.apple.com/uk/why-mac/compare/notebooks.html(Original post by madrid90)
Hi all, i should be goin university next year and i very much would like to buy an apply macbook. The question is, 13inc or 15inc? Which one, which one is better?
The main difference is screen size, but the bigger one should also be a bit faster, a bit better at multi-tasking, and a better graphics card. -
Re: Is the macbook really worth the money.Do you think a 15inc is a little to big for a law student at university?(Original post by michael321)

Re: Is the macbook really worth the money.I've got the 13 inch macbook pro, this is the better size, not only is it cheaper but also easier to carry around...lugging the 15 inch will require some effort!!...also for law you'll mainly be using it for internet, word processing? You won't need the extra processing power....(Original post by madrid90)

Re: Is the macbook really worth the money.
I'm typing on mine right now and I want to get another one so they can breed and make little macbook babies that I can cuddle at night...
MacBooks are awesome! (if you can afford one)
If you can't afford one then you'll be able to get near enough all the functionality of one for about half the price, but its just not the same. -
Re: Is the macbook really worth the money.
Build quality is very good but there is better out there, on par with business grade laptops but not quite military standard.
The basic models are pointless though, expensive and not really cut out for more than word processing and maybe some light photoshopping, even then the 13" screen is going to make it crap for anything graphical. I imagine the reason a lot of students buy the basic 13" poverty spec is because of the student discount and status related to apple products.
If I could afford it I'd buy a decent mbp and stick windows 7 on it, OSX has nothing to offer me now I've converted to cubase.Last edited by Megaross; 12-12-2011 at 12:03. -

Re: Is the macbook really worth the money.Yes it does, two finger click or crtl+click.(Original post by cjcmoney)

Re: Is the macbook really worth the money.
Ye but theres no buttons beneath the trackpad, its just a single block, I find it anoying you cant quickly right click on something thats all.
Plus look at some of the other laptops at the same price, theres so many out there with better performance and look just as sexy. I think people have mac's because they like to show it off, understandble because it is very good looking to doubt about it.
YOU're paying that extra £200 for the brand not the specs.
