Re: How Much Money do You Have in the Bank?(Original post by BA1)
About £4k in current account and about £180k offshore. I'm keeping that for a house when I graduate though. My university just gave me £800 in bursaries because they think I'm poor

Re: How Much Money do You Have in the Bank?
I'm 17 and right now I've got £150 in my wallet, about £300 in my current account and £4000 in my variable ISA. I'm pretty careful with my money and although I get paid cash-in-hand most of my wages go straight in the bank. I'm not saving for anything in particular but I just like knowing its there an that I've managed to save a decent amount. It will be useful when I go to uni next year too.

Re: How Much Money do You Have in the Bank?
I graduated from uni in July 2011 and worked a part-time job over the summer so I currently have just under £7k.
I just (thankfully) got a job that's £17k per annum which I start in January and I am living with my parents.
In October 2012, I start my postgraduate degree in Wales so basically, I will be saving like mad to pay the tuition fees and to pay for rent/life lol.
In a year's time exactly, I'll probably be one of the ones posting here saying '-£1475' but I like to think I've learned to budget and my days of overdrafting are long gone!

Re: How Much Money do You Have in the Bank?LOl even though its not funny this just made me smile. 'I've just got £1.01 available because my over draft is £750'(Original post by Cll_ws)
£1.01!
I hopefully get some money tomorrow, £40. If not, I won't be going home this christmas because i can't afford a train ticket, haha!
EDIT: Well I say £1.01, but it's actually -£748.99. I've just got 1.01 available because my overdraft is £750!
I can't wait for my next loan installment, my accommodation payment is £500 less next term, that'll give me a bit of extra money than I had this term -
Re: How Much Money do You Have in the Bank? That's my exact same reasoning - mine's about -£600 now but I'll have about £400 coming in from work soon and my loan in January so I'll be fine ... right?(Original post by lazy smurf)
It's now about minus £850, but I get paid on Wednesday. And get student loan in Jan so it should improve.

Re: How Much Money do You Have in the Bank?
Given that my cousin dropped out of Uni and I got her share of my Great Grandmother Rita's 'for my grandchildren' money before she passed away recently... a lot.
In my personal accounts about £700. Should be more once my loan comes through since I get a bit more than is needed to pay for the rent, have yet to check since they upped me to the London rate finally, though I had to ask twice. Still owed more though, I mean... I should get maximum and no matter what evidence we send (I think we've exhausted all possible evidence we can actually send to confirm out income), Student Finance are giving me the minimum. This would be fine except £1000 grant per year is nothing to sniff at. Looks like I won't be getting it though. At least I have money, I guess, but I think it's unfair to promise something and then piss around and disappoint people. I'm not the only one having some serious issues getting Student Finance to a) pay and b) actually indicate anything that is going on without me having to waste my and the company's time calling every two weeks.
ANYWAY that wasn't what this thread is about. Since I'm a first year living in catered halls, I have plenty for now. Next year'll test those savings methinks. -

Re: How Much Money do You Have in the Bank?ISA?(Original post by rjm101)
I know its a bit of a taboo to talk about this stuff but I've never minded and I've allways been curious about how much other people have too.
I'm also 21 and at the moment I have £6750. I earned a fair bit during placement year just through expenses.
During the summer I wanted a lot of things but I have this thing that I dont like breaking barriers. I had 7k and I sold off a lot of things I no longer use just to keep it above that but that only held on for so long.
I made about £600 selling off some old FPV gear. I would probably of had 10k if I didnt have any expensive hobbies. Other than that I bearly ever socialise.
Once I get 10k I would like to invest some of it in something but I'm totally lost on what to do. Doubt banks would pay any interest as its nothing to them but the reason behind me wanting to do that is because 0.5% interest in savings just isnt worth thinking about lol.
You don't pay tax on it either. My ISA is 3%. The Bank of England base rate is just what they charge the banks.
So to save you the math £6750 *3% = £202.5 -
