I'm aiming for £1000 by October early and have £500 in the bank now - minus £125 i've due to spend to pay for the booked family holiday and i'm 15.My brother,21 has £7000 but spent £2000 on a car + insurance recently and i find this amount quite impressive from a underclass background and he inspires me to try to save.

I don't know the first thing about shares either, to be honest, although I do know that I would personally prefer to have the money in the bank as money, if you know what I mean, as opposed to having it in the form of shares or assets. That's purely my personal preference though.

I understand what you mean in terms of shares but I personally dont care as long as it pays more back than I put in! The idea of always wanting it to be in the bank is what most people fall into problem wise. I think you need to be willing to just let it go for a couple of years in the hopes the return is better. Basically just forget about it and act as if you never had it in the first place lol. Also I know there are a lot of other options other than just investing it with shares I just dont know what and how .

Your brother definitely has his head screwed on right then, fair play to him. You need discipline to save up that kind of money. I'm determined to save up as much as possible in order to put down a deposit on a good house in a good area when I leave uni. I grew up with brothers as well, hardly any money, scraping by and all that, and I am determined that when I have children it won't be the same.

Fair play to you for wanting to save up as well. Onwards and upwards my friend.

Overdrafts are the devil. I've even refused to upgrade my account so that I'm not tempted to take one out.

I'm 21, a grad, and have about £500 in my current account and £3500 locked away in an ISA (which I really don't want to touch). I'm owed about £4k in wages/project, so hopefully that comes in before I next have to pay rent .

You shouldn't be getting EMA if you can afford to save it. It is for your upkeep in current education. Not so you can save to buy a nice laptop for uni. Although I prefer the idea of you saving it for further education than spending it on new clothes and as drinking money for the weekend as most of the tits from my school did

Anyway, to answer the original question. I did have about £4000 but I spent it on a new camera and lens. Which is really an investment, because I will map the money back way faster than I took to get it!
