Re: Got 99 problems but a bench aint one.90kg.(Original post by The_Blade)
What your weight now?
Decentish session today:
Bench: 60,70,80,92.5kg x 5
105kg x 3. Fine with this, hit prescribed reps with no grind.
80kg x 8 paused.
Squats 132.5kg x 5,5,1. Had massive problems unracking and just left it there. Going to up the weight next time and hopefully get at least one set of 5. Definitely coming to the end of SS on my squats...
Chins
DB rows 35kg x 8,8,8. -
Re: Got 99 problems but a bench aint one.
Got 3 sessions to log, mixed results:
Wednesday - Press 72.5kg x 4. This is a small PB.
- Deadlifts 152.5kg x 5,4. Cut my shin during 2nd set so didn't complete last rep.
-Chins
Friday - Bench 60,70,80,92.5kg x 5. 105kg x 3. Disappointing given that I've done 107.5x5 before but that was with good setup.
Squats - 130kg x 5,5,3. Had major hamstring doms from the deads.
Chins and DB rows.
Today - Bench same as last time and disappointing again.
Squats 135kg x 5,4,3. PB
Chins and DB rows.
I'm thinking of changing to 5/3/1 at some point in the next few months. -
Re: Got 99 problems but a bench aint one.
Decent today:
Press: 72.5kg x 5 - PB! Not even too bad, up to 75kg for my top set next time.
60kg x 5,5.
Deadlifts - managed to cut my shin again during the warm ups so I'm going to not do these until it's completely healed.
RDLs with 100kg - 3 sets. Grip gave out way before legs, will have to get some straps...
Tried some GHRs but don't think I set it up right.

Re: Got 99 problems but a bench aint one.I wear long socks normally or trackies.(Original post by Smack)
Try long socks when deadlifting ... or just man up. -
Re: Got 99 problems but a bench aint one.Looks like I may need to change my log title...(Original post by Smack)
Looks like you've got 100 problems now.
When I used to deadlift and power clean frequently my shins were covered in scars and cuts.
although I can subtract a problem if I get a bodyweight (90kg) OHP soon. -
Re: Got 99 problems but a bench aint one.I think we do but I'd prefer not to get into bad habits as they're supposed to be a lot easier to deadlift on.(Original post by Motorbiker)
Not got a trap bar at your gym? -
Better to deadlift a decent weight with trap bar instead of nit deadlifting heavy at all...(Original post by Mdawg)

Unless you're going to compete at powerlifting then surely lifting higher weights via trap bar is better for muscle growth? -
Re: Got 99 problems but a bench aint one.My uni has a team which is pretty friendly / low standard so I'm going to give it a go next year. But yeh I agree that I should have done it instead of not deadlifting at all.(Original post by Smack)
Use a trap bar if you have to. Unless you want to be a powerlifter there is no rule that says that you must barbell deadlift.
Not really, just smaller RoM / better leverage you would think?(Original post by Motorbiker)

Anyway too hot today for a proper session and mad hamstring doms from Wednesday so I took it easy:
Bench: 120kg x 1. Harder than expected, couldnt grip bar well.
80kg x 5,5 paused.
Squats: 100kg x 5,5,5
Chins -
Surely, unless the bar is raised it would be same Rom? It is easier though with leverage true.(Original post by Mdawg)

Re: Got 99 problems but a bench aint one.
Good today:
Bench: 60,70,80,92.5kgx5
105kgx4. Easier than last time by a long way, spotter said I should have gone for 5th and he was probably right.
80kg x 8 paused.
Squats: 140kg x 5,3,3 PB.
Chins
I'm going to move to Madcow's as written for squats, sets across and linear progression SS style is just getting unacceptably grindy. I've had a good run though, 140x5 on SS is about where most people get I think. -
Re: Got 99 problems but a bench aint one.
Today was ok, not great:
Press: 80kg x 1. Easy
90kg x F. I got this to my forehead but failed there. Not too far off as if I get it above my head I can always lock it - something to aim for in the short term I guess.
60kg x 5,4 paused.
Deadlifts: 150kg x 5,3. Cut my shin again, feelsbadman not sure whether to just accept it's gonna scar or take a few weeks off conventionals. Got a video though and form was real good, I think I've managed to retrain this as a push rather than a pull.
