Talks of a French GP to alternate with Spa:

Why not get rid of say Valencia and have a French GP...Spa's my favorite! (yeah, money concerns, but there must be ways around this!)

Totally agree with getting rid of Valencia it's a ridiculously boring track , oh and Korea too whilst they're at it.

Because Valencia pays more and that is all that Bernie Ecclestone seems to care about.

At least it's at Paul Ricard rather than Magny-Cours, which really wasn't that exciting either [not that I can see P-R being super awesome for racing...]

Ah finally a thread to talk about my love for motorsport

I was surprised at the Torro Rosso driver announcement. Thought Kaime was doing ok and has potential, I'm less warm about Buemi though, he didn't impress me that much.

I hope Jaime gets a seat somewhere and that Sutil does too.

I fear it's the end of Barrichello's career sadly

trulli should leave caterham and leave the sport for good. He had his chance in a good toyota in 2009 but didn't take a win.

I agree that it's time for Trulli to bugger off and cater to his vinyard. He's had his time. Barrichello however still has it.

Pitpass seem to think Senna will get the williams seat. I'm not sure yet as they've already got one pay driver with Maldonaldo so may want to go for a better/more experienced driver with someone like sutil next year would be my guess.

    Made me laugh.

Also, I think the williams seat will be between Senna and Barrichello. Maldonado is not the fastest F1 driver, probably one of the slowest, and so would have demanded williams to sign someone he can beat that looks fast but isn't - i.e. someone overrated. That would be Senna. Alternatively, he compares well to Barrichello who he outpaces in quali quite frequently so that's the other option.

Just watched Belgium 1998 on Youtube, it's a shame I already knew about this race! And a bigger shame I was 6 years old and unable to appreciate it at the time!

Since then I've watched Brazil 03 and Monaco 96, definitely having withdrawal symptoms lol.

Makes me wonder if Canada 11 will be up there with the classics in the future, so glad I sacrificed a whole days revision to watch that in full. (If my exam the next day went badly and I didn't get into uni, this post might be taking a different tone )

I think Canada 11 is already a classic, but it depends what you call a classic. There have been lots of great races that come to mind if you think about them. Hard to say if they will ever go down in history like *the* classic races like Dijon 79 or Silverstone 87 or Nurburgring 57. Time will tell perhaps, but often these classics are based as much on myth and legend of the drivers involved as the racing itself.

    1) F1 withdrawal - there is a cure... All the BBC 'classic F1' vids indexed in one place http://huwselby.com/f1/f1vids.htm

    2) Re France/Belgium 'share' proposal. Stupid. Spa is the best track on the calendar and the best for the fans too, it's the only one where a general admission ticket gives you a decent view without the need to splash out on a grandstand spot... Paul Ricard is owned by Bernie but it's not been designed with modern F1 in mind...

I've only been getting into the sport beyond the casual fan level this season really, so there's a lot I don't yet know about, thanks for more races to watch though

Before the 2011 season I would watch occasionally, when I was younger I was a Schumi fan because of my mums indoctrination, to my dads disgust who supported Coulthard. Neither of them are that bothered for the last few years though.

Cool, well you have many classics to enjoy then. Suzuka 05 is a classic of recent memory that is well worth watching. Just for a bit more detail then on the previous ones I said, Dijon 79 was Gilles Villeneuve vs. Arnoux in probably the best wheel to wheel battle of the modern era, Silverstone 87 was Mansell coming from 40 seconds (or so) down to take Piquet in the final few laps to win the British GP and Nurburgring 57 was an amazing comeback drive from Fangio, although I am not sure there is much film of it.

I'll check out the Suzuka one
I watched the highlights of Dijon on BBC website the other day, it's pretty amazing, saw a vid of it on Youtube before

Guys, what do you think of this idea?

DRS should close as soon as you pull of of the slipstream of the car you are following? So in essence, the DRS will neglect the advantage the guy infront has with the driver behind driving in turbulent air, and so driver skill would still be needed to pull off a pass.

Not a bad idea but you would need some sort of sensor on the car that would detect when the car leaves the slipstream, to turn off the DRS.

Maybe a heat sensor at the front of the car might work.. The sensor would have to turn on when DRS is activated, and deactivate itself and the DRS when a certain temperature drop is read..

I'd say it would be too hard to regulate as the cars won't always be exactly behind each other and some of them may move back into the slip stream to regain an advantage, which could lead to move incidents of drivers colliding.

I'd rather they just get rid of DRS. It's just creating artificial racing and almost dictating where overtaking will happen.
