JIM NOIR

Manchester’s best kept secret, Jim Noir is a melodic and idiosyncratic genius, a true British psychedelic oddball. His sound is rich in the sort of tunes you'd think went out with Simon and Garfunkel and Smile-era Beach Boys. Thrown in are ELO, Super Furry Animals, Pepper-era Beatles, The Beta Band, and early Pink Floyd.

He is truly a prodigal talent whose sophisticated grasp of arrangement is balanced by the whimsical, sometimes naive nature of his songs.

He has spent the past year releasing gloriously colourful and inventive EPs - Eanie Meany, My Patch and Quiet Man - that have gained cult status via eBay. His debut album, Tower Of Love, has received amazing reviews. He recently performed at Feedback under the guise of ‘special guest’. Those who were there will testify to this guy’s prodigious talent.

THE LODGER

The Lodger really do have the three minute indie pop song format nailed. Please pause to imagine Elvis Costello and Ray Davies having a cup of tea while Pete Shelley serenades them on a battered old Telecaster. It's Billy Bragg-esque, but with a sweeter and softer vocal approach; dark, indie-pop, brooding and energetic.

The Lodger excel in the mini-masterpiece of no-nonsense pop time and time again. A seemingly endless array of melodies knitted tightly together into kitchen sink dramas without ever wasting a note.

SUPERKINGS

Local favourites, Superkings, are an intricate and bitter piano-pop five-piece, their aural gems ranging from slow, melodic love songs to upbeat jazz-infested punk music. The ‘Kings lyrics tend to come straight from a scarred heart or humorous mind, depending on your viewpoint, with a sound that runs from The Smiths to Billy Joel via Talking Heads.

The ‘Kings were recently invited to play two highly successful support stints for Okkervil River in Manchester and Nottingham. They have supported Jeffrey Lewis. The Great Lake Swimmers and Thomas Truax at Feedback and are soon to play with The Research and Isobel Campbell (Bell & Sebastian).

ONE CHIP POTATO

Originally from Liverpool, One Chip Potato (aka Mike Kenny) now resides in Lancaster travelling round and playing random gigs with his guitar, fiddle, mandolin, banjo and saucepan. Gigs usually contain strange amounts of improvisation with bizarre comments thrown in.

OCP sounds like a crazy lunatic destroying a guitar whilst singing wild songs about clouds, robots, wooden huts, sunflower men, fish, the destruction of moles and humans, living in wide open spaces and ripping up carpet. Believe us, it’s all top-notch stuff.
