Re: Medicine 2012 hopeful entrants IIRemember all that number crunching I did?(Original post by laurie:))
i really really hope so, but i keep remembering new things in unit 4 that i got wrong
i had two hopes for an A* - in biology and in psychology. i messed up both of those chances by having panic attacks in PSYA3 and F214. so atm i just want AAA if its not too much to ask
It worked out showing the odds were in your favour
So stop worrying about chem
and the AAA is what you'll get at the very least for sure
Hey VV

Re: Medicine 2012 hopeful entrants IITrue say, so happy you got your 1st choice.(Original post by Quackers93)
For me the worst time of the year was the awkward stage between interviews and offers/rejections but that is probably more a re-appear thing
once you find something to occupy your time with you'll wonder where the time went before results day comes and hits you in the face
honestly, panicking and checking subject reports for boundaries and all.

Re: Medicine 2012 hopeful entrants IIYeah, compulsory for all koreans(Original post by apple17)
Ohh, so is NS like a Korean thing? Like its mandatory and all so unless you change ur nationality, you have to do it?
Definitely, but one option is doing MCAT during first year of med school (
) and transferring to an accelerated program. The only benefit is no licensing and if I don't make it in here, I am doing med somewhere
THOUGHT YOU WOULD SLEEP TONS. summer!
You guys get paternity leave too.
True say, same here. 72% of med school population is females here. Remember a question about that in my ISC interview book.
So, basically the plan is to become a hermit.
Yeah, london is definitely expensive (a bit too much).
Uhm, its greeter, so not even watching kids. It is good for a entry level job and part-time so no sacrificing sleep.
Prob not doing that since it is additional money and I am already taking a debt plus unless u really want to do it, it is not recommended. Tough with essays and all.
But again, thats a long time away.
I really wouldn't mind, if they'd just let me do it after training - like what most koreans do.
Oh wow. Aren't transfers harder than getting in?
Work. Too much work. Had a nap for 5 hours today - Sunday's the only day without work.
It's interesting - the shift in the sexes. It used to be almost completely male-dominant, but nowadays you can even see a female urologist
Yeaps. That's my plan (hehe)
I see. How many hours is it?
Well, it does help somewhat with job prospects and all though

Re: Medicine 2012 hopeful entrants IIThanks(Original post by apple17)

You just need to find something to distract you if you start getting panicky. There's no point stressing over something you can't change, so if you start feeling like that go play a game online or watch a dvd or just do something to de-stress you if it's getting a bit much
-
Re: Medicine 2012 hopeful entrants III know, thats the sad part! Well, at this point, I have just resolved myself into thinking that I might just scrape through and thinking won't really affect my marks so no point over-broading over spoilt milk or whatever! Haha, I find that reading mysteries destress me.(Original post by Quackers93)
Thanks

What you up to for the rest of your gap year?

Re: Medicine 2012 hopeful entrants IIGah, poor you! Maybe try asking the agency/whatever if you can postpone it(Original post by hslakaal)

Probably, don't even know if I am in a position to think bout transfers (STUPID STUPID IB.
)
Aww, poor you, atleast you are getting the money! Prob be rich by the time you come to school
Its amazing shift: more female power but I think its pre limited like some countries still have more male-dominated sectors!
How will you find a house with people if you plan to be a hermit!
Uhm, 3 hours per day for all 5 days and for 4 weeks, I am taking an extra 1.5 h shift
True, once again, I will start thinking about it if I ever do get in. No point giving myself false hope.

Not a lot really. Work, work and more work! 8-6 everday last week so all I've done this weekend is sleep
and I've got the same again next week wooo! I'm trying to decide when to quit cause if I don't tell them soon they'd have me working right up until 7th Sept when I start uni on the 8th.
For all that I've not really done anything much this year, it has gone really quickly! Can't believe it's nearly July :O When does your summer camp job start?
-
Re: Medicine 2012 hopeful entrants IIgah, you work so much! Incredible.(Original post by Quackers93)
Yeah do that then

Maybe mid-august or something so you can comp chill for 2 weeks.
Probably since you are off and not really studying, for me, it has been the slowest year ever! Starts from tomorrow!
Excited to do something for the afternoons instead of sleeping 4 hours (my sleep cycle has officially got messed up)

Re: Medicine 2012 hopeful entrants IIYeah that's probably what I'll do but ah I don' know! I do one-to-one work with a little boy twice and a week and I absolutely love it, so I don't know whether to say that I'm leaving but I'll still do those two afternoons a week til I leave. But no doubt I'd turn back into me working all the time lol Ahh I don't know. I'll probably end up just saying I'm leaving when I get too tired(Original post by apple17)

Funny I found last year went dead quick too
Not gonna lie, I sort of missed studying when it was gone :'( haha Woo! Have fun with it! My sleeping cycle is completely messed up too but just view at as prep for weird shifts on call and stuff haha

Re: Medicine 2012 hopeful entrants IIAww, yeah, the time you take thinking about when to leave could be time used to do something useful(Original post by Quackers93)

Nah, IB has seriously screwed me over, can't remember life before it and it seemed way too long a program. Well, I don't really miss it but I feel guilty for not being productive.
Yeah, like I wake up early, sleep late and then sleep in between of the day (def not fitting any work schedule.
)

Re: Medicine 2012 hopeful entrants II(Original post by laurie:))
this is probably my brokest summer so far. job hunting has so far failed. soooo tempted to enter myself into a clinical trial - some of them will pay up to £3000 for a couple nights stay
i could do with that kinda money!
What kind of stuff is this? Is it dangerous?
That's AMAZING money
-
Re: Medicine 2012 hopeful entrants IIits stage 1 and 2 trials (if i remember correctly) which is where they test low levels of drugs out on healthy participants to check for side effects, and if you enter, you probably have a 50% chance of being given a placebo anyway! most of the time they finish fine (occassionally in the news you hear random stories, but there are thousands of trials that happen and only a couple go badly) and during the stay, you just relax and stuff. i found one place that purely investigates colds and influenza, and pays several thousand for a 5 night stay!
you can also sell your blood to research centres, i found one place that would give £60 for 600ml
So stop worrying about chem
