Salford student staying in Manchester private accommodation?
Thinking of going salford uni but really prefer private halls for the MMU/UoM students. I live in Manchester so know my way round and feel it would be easy to get to Salford campus. Has anyone encountered salford students staying in the Manchester private halls or am I just wishful thinking?

    Thanks, Chelsea.

I don't think you'd be allowed to live in the actual university halls but you could rent private accommodation in Manchester quite easily. I know a guy at Salford who lives right by MMU.

Big problem I see is getting to Salford each day. I've done it a few times and every single time the train was so packed I had to take a running jump to get on, it was an absolutely nightmare and I didn't even travel at peak times. That would really put me off.

I wouldn't be able to live in the official uni halls anyway as I live quite close to the city center but really want to move out. I'm not too fussed about the commute really. I know a few buses I can get and it would probably be just the same way of travel if I was to live at home (except I wouldn't be as skint).
I'm just abit curious about if I'd be left out of things considering people I live would be at a different uni :/

I'm hoping to go to Salford uni in September and I've booked accommodation in central Manchester, and I know a few others who are doing the same. From what I've heard its perfectly normal, and there is Salford students living in private halls in Manchester. After all Salford is only about two miles away from Manchester so you're bound to find Salford uni students there.

Also the bit about "being left out of things" - I've got a mate who goes to Man Met and lives in private halls with four other people, two at Uni of Manchester, one at Man Met and the other at Salford uni and absolutely loves the social side of it. I can't imagine why you would be left out of things, because if you were going to go out clubbing and stuff, you'd be going out with the people you've met at uni/halls and stuff. I really doubt you'd feel left out tbh :-)

The only problem with decent private halls in central Manchester is that they're a bit pricey, like around £115 a week but I guess you're in a perfect location and the accommodation will be decent.

Yeah the only downside is the price really but i've got a while to think about it yet. It'd be so much easier to live in town. It's already a nightmare coming home from clubs and i live only about 15 mins taxi ride from them so to live in halls and be able to walk home would be sick. Most of the halls i've seen are literally in the epicentre of where all the decent clubs and bars are so massive positives.

Yeah the price is a massive down side tbh - but I'm hoping the location makes up for it.

Just been for a show round at mill point and it seems excellent. Staff really friendly, rooms seem decent size and it's in a great location, right next to picadilly point accommodation too so really student central. Strongly considering it now

Hi chelsea,Just got my unconditional offer from salford university last week and i am really looking forward for an accommodation in the city centre despite the travel time to the university on adelphi street. The social life in the salford halls seems quite dead!
I will be new here and All my friends are at the Uom :/.
Mill point seems quite a good location and the prices are okay.Could you advise me on how to book it for september?are you sharing it with other people?

Yo what up!. I went to the Piccadilly point and to mill point and they showed around and In my opinion the price you paying for private halls seems reasonable, however I didnt really like the place, Like its kinda boring, anyway I've check this new accommodation called Student castle right next to oxford road, and was pretty amazed. i mean price wise its on the same bracket as unite and millpoint, but student castle is new, and much better. check out their website on google.

Have you been around to any other private accomodation? My suggestion is to shop around, you might find a better place that will suit your taste.

Alright mate,I can't right now.I'm stuck in edinburgh finishing my first year. The only way I can get an idea of these accommodations is via those websites.lol.I've been to manchester a lot of times and it does not matter as long as the accommodation is in the city centre.
Let me know which one you found the best.
By the way ,I hope it will not be a problem getting to uni everyday.

ah I see well if you do get time please do check it, its better to see it for urself, anyway yeah ill give you my own opinion and its up to you if wanna take it into account.

So, salford is really not that far away imo, me and my mate used to walk it from Manchester Piccadilly to salford university!, If you really dont mind traveling, the transportation to salford are easily accessible from the city centre.

    City Centre Accommodation
    Student Castle (new)
    Unite (Park way/Picadilly Point)
    Mill Point

    Student Castle
    Pros:
-New, just gonna open in 2012
-The design are really modern not boring
-Location, its next to oxford road train station, so you can like get a train from there to salford no problem, also it is in the oxford road which is like the centre of students (Man MET and MAnU), a good 5-10 mins walk to Piccadilly garden.
-the location is not also chavy, You really will feel living in the city.
-Its the highest Student Accommodation in the world. aparently
-Free 30mb internet with 8mb wireless. Bills water everything are included. u got a sky 3d tv on the common room. also gym.
-Ensuite flats i think is around 120 pounds pw and studio are 155pw

    Cons:
-I see no cons. Price wise I think its not really a problem. thats why I booked a place. 30th floor baby!XD

    Unite Parkway/Picadilly Point
    Pros:
-Relatively Cheap - 120 something pounds ensuite, Studio(depending on the building) around 185 pounds or something
-Picadilly point is close to picadilly station so thats a plus.

    Cons:
-IMO the format of the rooms are quite boring.
-You can see a lot of negative comments about Unite in courtesy of TSR
-I Heard the service was bad so I really dont know since ive only heard it.
-Parkway is like next to council houses or something, when i went there I saw a lot of chavs hanging about in the big ass space next to it.

    Mill Point
    Pros:
    -it is cheap
    -also next to picadilly station
-I dont know about the socializing stuff so i really can't weigh in on that.

    Cons:
-I think it pretty much gives you the same vibe as unite. Idk

    Conclusion
well as previously stated, I am merely stating my opinions about these accommodations. it is entirely up to you if you wanna take it into account.
I picked Student Castle because I think its the best. its new and the price that you are paying are really worth it. Again it is up to you my friend.

P.S. Those 3 are the main ones in the city centre, you can have a look at the other accommodation so you can have a bigger degree of comparison.

Re: Salford student staying in Manchester private accommodation?
I've booked my accommodation with mill point it seems, IMO, one of the best I've come across, I've also spoke to people living there now and they say it has a sick social vibe to it which is the main reason for me. Ive been a couple of times now to hand in forms etc cos its close to my college so I've had time to talk to the staff as well and they seemed great and really down to earth.

It's right next to picadilly train station so getting to uni would be no problem, also there's picadilly gardens down the road where all the buses go so even better. Some guy who works there told me that most of their Salford students just cycle to uni to save on cash.

I also happened to stumble upon a mill point Facebook group (stalking hell haha) and it was full of people talking about nights out and parties at peoples flats etc and everyone had banter with eachother so it seems that the students there don't just socialise with the people in their flat but with everyone else at mill point.

The rooms were just standard accommodation rooms tbh, the bedrooms were slightly larger than some I've seen but just normal. You get a phone in your room which has free internal calls but if you wanna ring outside of mill point you just top it up like a mobile. Also the communal living room/kitchen was great. You get a tv and freeview which is unusual cos some places don't give you that.

I'm so stoked to move in, can't wait for September.

I just hope i don't end up living in a very boring flat :/
Yeah i have browsed the mill point website, the flats seems great for the price they are offering.
Did they already tell who gonna be your future flatmates?
    Big Thanks chelsea x

Yeah I'm praying I don't get teamed up with boring people, aparently tho if you ring up once you've booked you can tell them some of your preferences, like living with other people who want a lively flat etc.

I'm not too sure if they tell you who you'll live with, they should tell you your flat number tho and you might be able to find people in your flat from a fb page or in here maybe
