    It is too invasive.

I still don't understand why so many people post so much about their lives. Stuff like "Got back from an amazing country trip, going to dinner now!" or "heading to chitchat bar to drink a pint and relax". How can people expose themselves this much? This would be ok if we only had very close friends as facebook friends. Which is not the case.

The more invasive it is, the more money they can make because the more publicity companies get when one person "likes" something or reads a newspapers article.

It's got nothing to do with "fixing something that isn't broken".

If you don't want people to see things don't put them on, same if you don't want to see other peoples information don't have them as friends.

This whole facebook argument really annoys me. It's a great website to socialise and stay up to date with friends/past friends, music, uni work, nights out etc and quite frankly if there is something you don't like about it then you're simply doing it wrong.

Albeit, I don't like how easy it is for people to see stuff from years ago.. Hence my girlfriend seeing other girls writing on my wall from before we were together, this is a flaw. BUT it's nothing that 10-15minutes of deleted can't solve.

People always complain about the facebook changes, whenever they make any change their is usually a wave of complainst on my newsfeed ...however ppl continue to use it and get used to it :dontknow:. People need to chill it's only a website, that's all it is and that's all it should be, there really are more important things, it's quite incredible the way people get so worked up.. Its only as intrusive as you want it to be since you can edit your page and what you put up. no need to over react people. btw i think it looks absolutely ****

If you don't like it, don't use it.

Also, there ARE security options. If you don't want X person to see Y content on your profile you can change your security options to reflect that.

The only thing about it is that it's ugly and looks like a knock off myspace.

    Agreed.

And they don't really if we like or not, since FB is so bloody popular that even infants have it these days. Some years ago FB was really cool, now it is incredibly lame.

I use to chat to friends and family that are away because basically "everyone's on Facebook".

I deleted my facebook a couple weeks back because I got sick of all the precious time I wasted on the site and I found was starting to find it a bit stalkerish o.O Everyone that I want to talk to has my number or skype and that will suffice.

I think the big picture at the top of the page looks pretty cool . I'm too tired right now to read the article properly and comment on anything else.

Am I the only one who loves the new layout?

I don't really care about everyone being able to see my past activity on facebook, I don't really have anything to hide. Plus it'll be useful to remember when things happened.

This new layout has certainly made me think twice about what I make public. Particularly as I have people from the university union who work with me as friends on there, and I use it to coordinate course reps and so on... I do find it's an incredibly useful tool that saves me a lot of time, but now I'm finding that I have to be very careful of what I write in case anyone 'official' from the uni sees it.

So.. I can't delete it (and to be honest if I were only using it as a strictly personal thing then I wouldn't anyway!)... but now everything is so open on there, I find I can't be as open as I would have liked to have been.

I just don't understand why they revamp everything after about 3 months?
It gets worse/more annoying each time!

I still think the glory days of facebook were around 2006-2007. At that time it was basically a site for students where we could talk to each other, stalk our peers from uni and nobody really minded being stalked because it wasn't like parents, employers, advertisers were following our every move back then. Facebook was fun back then!

Ever since then it has gradually become more commercialised, more 'serious' and less fun. More something you have to worry about what you're putting on it, than having fun with your friends.

I do think facebook is going to die but I don't think it will be as quick as myspace and bebo etc. It will more be a case of people keeping their accounts and not really doing much on it, just using it for private messages and chat like a convenient email function. I have certainly noticed my friends are uploading albums far less frequently than they used to. I haven't posted an album for a couple of years. And when you look on my wall or my friends walls, there tends to be one or two wall posts a month when back a few years ago there were posts every couple of days.

I think facebook is going to be something we all look back and reminisce about in years to come as a big social phenomenon of our times and we will think back sadly how it slowly lost its original fun and excitement.

How can something be invasive when you are the person who inputs the information and uploads the pictures and shares the links?

Seriously, every few months this happens. Facebook, an entirely free to use service, alters its service and everyone complains about it for a few weeks and then forgets that it was even different in the first place.

If you don't want people to see information about you, don't add them as friends and/or don't share the information. Simple.

this is just what i do to keep people from getting my info. i have created a short listed friends group on facebook where all my close friends are member i only post there so i dont have to worry about privacy much i also upload pictures on the group so even if i accept unknown people's friends request i wont have any problem

1 - If you don't like it, don't use it. Simple. It is your choice to use it at the end of the day.

2 - If you do use it, then use your brain and use the privacy settings. They are there. Use them.

3 - Common sense point one. Do not put things on facebook you do not want to share.

4 - Common sense point two. Only add people who you know.

I deleted my account to help stay focused on revising. I feel kind of free in a way- people don't have a clue what I'm up to, and I'm not keeping up with what other people are doing and then feeling boring cos I'm not doing something really cool every single minute of my day haha

I've been using Timeline for several months now and actually find it more useful and private than the old layout. I don't find it at all "invasive" because I'm not an idiot and use the privacy settings. These allow me to customise exactly who can see what - which can then be verified with the 'View as...' feature. For those that aren't aware of this you can find out more here.
