Re: Who uses >=2 monitors with their PC
I use a 17" laptop + an old 19" monitor.
It's just incredibly useful, more space for screen heavy apps like cubase and solidworks.
You can have an assignment or some research open in one, and the word document in the other.
Itunes in one, firefox in the other.
Laptop does really struggle though it's a piece of ****, now that I've finally got a permanent job back at uni I can use my christmas earning from here to build a decent dual 24" setup, should be a godsend. -
Re: Who uses >=2 monitors with their PC
I have one. I think two would sometimes be useful (e.g. when I was doing my dissertations) but I am a fairly simple person

My boyfriend has four! He is a software developer though so it comes in very handy. At he has his IRC chat thing on the top, Wikipedia on the primary, some text editor on the right hand side, and one of his folders open on the left. Usually it's a little less pedestrian..... -
Re: Who uses >=2 monitors with their PC
I have three, mainly because you can do so much more at once, it's not just the time spent alt-tabbing...
Watching fullscreen iplayer and playing a game or browsing the web at the same time.
Eyefinity gaming can be quite fun on older titles, and like a slideshow on newer ones... -
Re: Who uses >=2 monitors with their PC
The only reason I use two monitors is because I had a spare one lying around. However, my main monitor is 24" and my second monitor is 17" which would make it awkward for Eyefinity or anything like that, so I tend to just use the small one for documents that I need to reference or my music playlist.

Re: Who uses >=2 monitors with their PCWhat do you mean by cost? Aside from having to buy the second monitor if you don't have one already, and they can cost you as little as £40.(Original post by mangoh)
Does it not cost a lot more to run if you have 2 monitors? -
Re: Who uses >=2 monitors with their PCIt would use perhaps a KWh per day (but probably less) costing about £3 a month.(Original post by mangoh)

EDIT: That's assuming you keep it on 24/7 which you obviously wouldn't! -
Re: Who uses >=2 monitors with their PCDo you have a graphics card with 3 monitor outputs? Mine only has 2(Original post by Robbie c)
3 screens, once you go tri-monitor you'll never be able to go back.
how did you do it?

Re: Who uses >=2 monitors with their PCI used to have a 6950 which could output to three monitors but at the moment I'm running one monitor from my onboard graphics (use this one for web browsing) and two from a 6870 whilst my 6950 is being RMA'd.(Original post by dudleyian)

Re: Who uses >=2 monitors with their PCIf you have two monitors or more that are of the same size and resolution (there's little point otherwise) then you can use ATI Eyefinity or Nvidia Surround to effectively turn them into one big monitor, and this way games won't even know there's more than monitor and will display on all of them.(Original post by Right Guard 3.D)
I don't know how to get games on 2 monitors, mine always play on 1?
My tv can be used as a monitor, so I usually use 1 but when I need to use 2 (e.g. if Im going to watch a movie, football or iplayer so I can do something else (well try too)) -
Re: Who uses >=2 monitors with their PCI agree with this. Once you have 3 monitors, you will always need at least two. They're just too useful!(Original post by ch0llima)
Once you go 2+ monitors you don't go back. Almost everyone I know agrees with me on this
On the subject of power, 3xU2311Hs pull around 100W from the wall. -
Re: Who uses >=2 monitors with their PCI looked up the power consumption for a Dell 20" monitor and found it to be ~30W. That's 30Wh in one hour and 720Wh in a day. In one month it's roughly 22KWh and at 15p per KWh this is ~£3 a month.(Original post by mangoh)
i'm referring to electricity...
how much do you think a year will running 2 monitors approxiatemly cost?
how much more shall I say than if you were to run only 1 monitor?
how sure are you on this?
£36 sounds to little for a year

Re: Who uses >=2 monitors with their PC
would this be good for a second monitor on my gaming rig?

At 25 pound this seems like a shrewed deal! -
Re: Who uses >=2 monitors with their PCI searched something on Google and that's what came up!(Original post by mangoh)
great explanation!
can i ask how did you know I have a dell 20" monitor?
how did you do it?
