Unbelievable Tuition Fee Increase! (PG only)
In durham's 2012-2013 prospectus the rate of tuition fees for International Students is 14500 and now it jumped to 15300. Why so sudden? It is unbelievably costly!
They should have notified people that the prospectus' details about the tuition fees is still subject to change. Everybody will be shocked.
To add to my post,
"They should have notified people that the prospectus' details about the tuition fees is still subject to change." - This is because I have been personally informed that the tuition is 14500 for 2012-2013. In my offer it says 15300. I was surprised so I posted this in TSR.
Everybody will be shocked.
- I think every international student will be. This is why we prepare for all the cost incurred before we apply. We also communicate with the uni beforehand to avoid unexpected increase.
This post entirely states the situation of a PG International applicant not UG students. Why I didn't state it is for PG? because it is apparent from the rate itself. This is also not about funding but full tuition fees. However, those who want to add their thoughts here is very much welcome.
I hope this makes it clear.Last edited by flamesniper; 20-12-2011 at 17:08. Reason: to clarify -
Re: Unbelievable Tuition Fee Increase!Yeah, little known fact, all foreign people are stinking rich.(Original post by freedom1)
Who cares about international student fees they all rich and can afford to pay more anyway. -
Re: Unbelievable Tuition Fee Increase! If they can afford to pay £14k per year for education without loans etc then yes. These countries they come from are terribly unequal the top 0.001% live in luxury and come to our universities whereas the rest live on 5p per day.(Original post by Fallen)

Re: Unbelievable Tuition Fee Increase!I know plenty of international students whose entire extended family have been saving for a decade or so to send them here, another £2500 is a lot of money.(Original post by freedom1)

I am not saying the fee increase is unfair, or even unexpected, but the idea that all international students are stinking rich is just plain false. -

Lol, go to your own universities then, more places for us 8)
I hope you weren't being serious? -
Re: Unbelievable Tuition Fee Increase!International students do not effect the quota of EU students who are allowed to go to university in our country, as they are not being funded by the government in anyway - hence the higher fees.(Original post by Maddog Jones)

Re: Unbelievable Tuition Fee Increase! They are richer than most people that live in this country yet come from 3rd world countries. So compared to their fellow countrymen they are Gods.(Original post by Fallen)

Re: Unbelievable Tuition Fee Increase! Not all countries outside of the EU have $300/year salaries... USA, Canada, Australia? And saving enough money is not an unreasonable possibility from lots of the ex-Bloc countries (which aren't in the EU), Russia, etc.(Original post by freedom1)

Re: Unbelievable Tuition Fee Increase!that's for undergraduates though. Most postgraduate courses have only had a very small increase. Still, the increase the OP says is not that bad...(Original post by Cattree)
That's a 5.5% increase. Current inflation is 4.8%. Home students have had an increase from about 3k to 9k.
Get over it. -
Re: Unbelievable Tuition Fee Increase!seriously guys, why do you have to be so aggressive? The OP is talking about postgraduate fees, not undergraduates, in which case if Durham only increased international fees (I don't know if that's what happened, I'm just saying) and kept the home fees unchanged, then it is indeed unfair.(Original post by burgergetsbored)
yeah and students from the UK have to pay 6k more a year, stop moaning.
So please, before you all attack someone, do take the time to read the thread properly.
