question

a small mouse is twice shorter than a long mouse.

(a) if the long mouse weighs 17 grams, work out the mass of the long mouse.

(b) john says that " the small mouse must be twice as lighter than the long mouse"
explain why john is wrong.

for part a i said that

let long mouse = X therfore small mouse must = X/2
then 17/2 =8.5 therefore small mouse must =8.5 grams :s-smilie::s-smilie:

any one have any views or any answers thanks in advance
"twice shorter"???

I think you will find that mass is proportional to volume not length.

what would your answer be
"Twice shorter" is meaningless but assuming the length of the small mouse is half that of the large mouse then its volume would be reduced by a scale factor of 8. You will need to assume both mice have the same density to work out the answer (perhaps they are chocolate mice?).
