No offer from Durham yet
Hi everyone
I haven’t had an offer from Durham University yet, and I sent my application off early (4th October). What does that mean? Is that a bad sign, does it mean I’m unlikely to get an offer? I’ve applied to University College to study Modern Languages.
A friend has applied to a different college to study Geology, and got an offer on the 1st December.
Do different departments work differently, or is that different colleges work differently....Or is it both?
In terms of making offers, what is typical of Durham? How long after sending off your application should you expect to get a yes/no for an offer?
I'm just a little concerned.
Thank you.

Re: No offer from Durham yet
Different departments take different amounts of time. (I don't think I'd heard yet, this time last year, for Natural Sciences). The college doesn't really effect it, as your department accepts you, and then they work out which college you're in. (It's differnt to Oxbridge in that respect).
So don't worry about it yet. -
Re: No offer from Durham yetThanks, that's useful to know... I didn't know that University was over-subscribed.(Original post by aimee810)
I didn't get my Durham offer until the very last minute (Like Feb/March?) so don't worry too much. Plus University College is massively over-subscribed so I imagine it might take longer for them to assign places.

Re: No offer from Durham yetYeah I heard that over half of all applicants apply to castle. Although I'm not 100% sure on that fact so don't quote me on it!(Original post by Shellbeach)

Good luck with your offer

Re: No offer from Durham yetIf you receive your offer by Christmas you're probably doing quite well to be honest. Durham tend to be quite slow due to a number of factors, mainly its popularity and the collegiate structure. It does also vary by department.(Original post by Shellbeach)

That you haven't received a final reply yet gives no real indication either way. Just try and be patient. -

Re: No offer from Durham yet
This is posted on the Durham website for application:
"UCAS applications for 2012 entry
As you may be aware, UCAS applications to Durham University have increased by almost 6% this year. We are committed to giving full attention to each and every application and consequently we have not confirmed as many decisions with UCAS by the end of January 2012 as at the equivalent point last year. We received the last batch of our on-time applications from UCAS on the 27th January 2012, so we are still busy making decisions on applications that qualify for equal consideration. We aim to have all of these completed well before the UCAS advisory deadline of 31st March 2012 if they do not require an interview. As soon as we are in a position to confirm a decision, we will update UCAS and e-mail applicants directly to let them know. "
Don't sweat it - things take time. -
Re: No offer from Durham yet
I have also applied to study modern languages at Durham, still haven't heard anything either...
Had all my other offers so this is the only one i'm waiting for!
I know someone who's had an offer for biology and a couple who have been rejected. I thought they would have replied by now, it's taking so long!
What are everyone's predicted grades, for those of you who've applied to do Modern Languages? Just wondering?
