I have received a single date for 'Rapiscan' training, 9th June...in london- is anyone else attending the same course?

I had my 5 day course waivered as I have already received my certificate from Highfields for my SIA course

Still states that the role depends on screening etc- surely they cant take over 3 months to do a background check!

I have my training starting on Monday through to Friday. I'm still feeling a bit so-and-so about whether I really want to do it, but since jobs are so hard to come by at the moment I feel I ought to just give it a go for now. It's quite a bummer that I have to be in Stratford at 7:30am, which according to TFL means leaving the house at around 6:00am! :zomg:. So long, lie-ins :moon:

I know, right? End at 5:00pm as well so it looks like they're gonna be very long days! Starting from tomorrow night I've got to really force myself to get to sleep by about 10pm if I want to make it through the days.

On the bright side, it's a chance of getting a job, which equals real work experience and money . I'm really wanting to save up for a travelling trip so that's the main thing driving me to do this at the moment. Good luck with yours :yy:

    Oh my, good luck :yy:

I'm only a little annoyed that apparently doing this training still isn't a definite as to whether we're actually gonna get the job in the end or not. But hopefully we give it our all and get it :yep:

It's not really a 'real job' in my opinion (temporary work), its just about over a months and halfs worth of contracted work (During Olympic Games). I read on the news paper that over 20,000 people applied to work for the G4S olympics so I'm pretty sure we all getting the boot after. Then we going to have A LOT of experienced and SIA qualified people looking for security jobs at the same time so doesn't help all too much with future unemployment.

Also whilst £8.50 (standard role) for a starting wage might seem good it is actually relatively poor for such a short peroid of contracted work, they do generally pay better, I've been looking at security roles and the perm positions generally start at £7.50 and over, meh maybe the training pay and FREE SIA might make it worth the while.

There are other security companies you can go for if G4S don't keep you on though, not only that but G4S also recruit for Safety Event Stewards all year round in Manchester, and I can select an interview date whenever I want (I will do it after the Olympics if they don't keep me on). I know Showsec almost always recruit anyone with with an SIA badge. Also as long as you do your job well, and stand out from the rest I'm sure there will be a position for you.

I've just set the date for my interview, and they've sent me an email to confirm it, and in that email it says "You will shortly receive an email inviting you to complete your online application form, it is imperative you make every effort to fill this out BEFORE attending your interview day". But... I haven't received the email, and my interview is on Monday
