Re: G4S 2012 Olympics Job
I will be attending an interview too.
Can anyone explain all the sensory test (hearing test, sight test and smell) test in more detail?
How can you tell the difference between lemon and mint and water in the smell tests?
What will I be required to hear in the hearing test?
I am deaf and am worried about the hearing test more than the others.
Please offer any hints or advice.
Thank you very much. -
Re: G4S 2012 Olympics Jobyou will have sight and smell tests. it would be mint water, lemon juice (i got that anyway) and plain water. if you cant tell the difference between them you shouldn't be applying.(Original post by Moe1976)

I didn't get a hearing test. If you are deaf personally I would advise you not to go forward as this is security when communication is key. -
Re: G4S 2012 Olympics JobLoads of powerpoints lol(Original post by Absinth)
If you don't mind saying, what did the training consist of?
They went through what is a door supervisor, duty of care, first aid, communication etc. That was for the first 2 days. They always hint what will be in the test e.g "you lot need to write that down, cos you're gonna need it"
They show some honorific videos as well (well it depends how strong your stomach is). Basically showing what NOT to do. The worst one was a bomb going off in a crowd and a football stadium fire.
They show and tell you worst case scenario, but keep reminding people that the main duty of the Olympics will be customer service.
Day 3 is a recap and 3 multiple choice papers (really easy)
Day 4 is Physical intervention training. (how to show a non-aggressive stance, how to break away from someone who has grabbed you and how to escort someone out, in a hold). The test of this is you have to preform one of the manoeuvres in front the camera. If you get it wrong, they just correct you and record it until you get it right
long (sometimes boring) days, but useful info and pretty easy
Hope that helped -
Re: G4S 2012 Olympics JobPersonally I'd say being deaf shouldn't limit you applying, and they will give you a role that is suitable. I am hearing, but I've studied British Sign Language. So i say go for it, just let them know on the application form.(Original post by Moe1976)

Re: G4S 2012 Olympics Job
Mines this Monday

My tutor also informed us that a surprising number of people have been turned away due to not having all the correct paperwork or not having filled it all in properly. It's common sense, but just make sure you take all the right paperwork you get of the site

Ah I see, thanks. The only information I've received about it is an e-mail stating the location and time of training. Have you done all your training? -

Re: G4S 2012 Olympics Job
Going for my interview next week hope it doesn't take too long. Although I'm not sure if my chances are decreased as I opted to choose whether I work for more than 48 hours in the week or whatever that employee law was so I don't know if this will effect whether they choose me.

Re: G4S 2012 Olympics Job
Applied for this on a whim quite a few months ago and at the time I didn't know what the job would entail. Got a phonecall from them a few days ago asking me to book an interview. Only just realised it's a security job... I'm a girl, 5'1, bit thin, incredibly weak, got no muscle. Would I have any chance of getting the job??

Re: G4S 2012 Olympics JobYou shouldnt think like that at all, ive done the sia training and the trainers there said that it dont matter how short tall build you are..i learnt alot from the training, there were girls/women there too so go for it. They teach you how to prevent crime and esclation and control security stuff like that, theres three exams and last day you are taught pyschical intervention, how to defend, escort, remove, the correct duties of a DS, its a long process but good.(Original post by Lintu93)
