How long does training take, and when will it be? Don't want to miss university for it.
Training is a 4 day course, first day is basically revision, they give you booklets to study on the course, second day you get two tests, third day another test last day is all psychical -intervention, tbh if you pay attention and do the revision you'll find it easy.

and the course is on-going every week till towards the start of Olympics, as the deadline for this vacancy is this month id say towards end of April they will stop the training, not sure though you never know and yeah if you cannot do the week they ask tell them they will ask you when your available to take the course like they did with me.

I'm in the same position. Ideally my 3 weeks off in Easter will be great to the training in but will I pass the screening and vetting stage in time.

Follow up updates on the vetting always, be in contact and have all your reference there ready to hand over to the vetting staff, it will make the process fast.

Well my interview is on the 19th, I have confidence I will pass as I have customer service experience etc. I guess they will do the vetting process quicker if training ends in april and hopefully i can train in my easter holiday.

    Hi,

Got my interview on Monday 12th at 2.30pm. Am planning on arriving 1 and a half hours early, as i've heard about the long queues. What happens though if you're still queuing by the time your interview appointment is booked? Do they not pay much attention to that exactly, and is it more whoever gets through at about that time gets called in?

Also, I don't have my National Insurance card itself, god knows where it is, but i do have the document that came with it from HMRC, was anyone else in this situation? Did they accept just that paper document?

And finally, does anyone know when the training is? It's hard enough me getting back down there from Uni for this Monday, but if it were any time before May 31st, it'd be impossible as I'm living down in Portsmouth and will have exams during May!

People end up waiting longer because they havent filled in their profile CV on the site which delays others then theres ID problems which causes queues and so on, so many reasons.
From my knowledge i do not think they just accept the papers as they need to scan your original ID there and then. And training can take up a wait as you have to go through vetting first which can take up to 12weeks and if you cannot make it on the week the choose then notify them and they should give you an alternative week to train, hope that helps.

I got there half an hour early and they told me to come back because I was early, although it is best to get there early and wait than later because they where turning many people away that where late. As long as your in the que its ok. I didn't get interviewed till 3:30 for a 2:30 appointment.

Like niyaz93 said you wait longer if your didn't fill in your online application form, if you did you get fast tracked through although this still takes a long time. They wont let you join the que to the interview unless you completed this.

I am also in the same position about training I can't just go back home for a week to train. I hope my application gets completed soon so I can do the training in the Easter holidays.

I don't think they will accept the letter as either. Do you have a P45?

Don't have P45, but they do say in the email that they'll accept documentation from certain authorities as proof of NI.

Figure if i just take the document with me, as thats all i have, and if that doesnt suffice, then don't you get 10 days after the interview to provide any additional necessary documentation? Can get a letter from the jobcentre confirming it as i hear replacement & temp cards come from there now

Yeah they do give you 10 days for missing documents so thats good, i think they should approve of the documents from job centre so give it a try if not you have 10days to give the missing docz, aint it possible to get a new NI card ?

Think the whole process of getting a new NI card takes a month or 2, but you can get a provisionary document that a jobcentre can provide.

Just phoned up the G4S 2012 support number, and she told me that as long as it is an official document, stating my name, and the NI number on it, then that should be fine. So hopefully the original document will suffice!

May rummage through a few old boxes and stuff when i go home on Sunday anyway as i have a niggling suspicion that the card could be lying in a drawer somewhere!

    Hi,

Has anyone been for the week long SIA training at City Gate House in Stratford, London? I'm booked on to go this week (12th-16th) and wanted to ask a couple of questions if anyone can help?...

Is it definitely 5 days training? My email says Mon 12th - Fri 16th, which is 5 days, but I've read a few of you here saying it was 4 days?

Also, what is the dress code like for the course? Trousers/shirts or casual?

Thanks for any help in advance!

Well it depends but if your fast and up to date with everything like the knowledge and not falling behind it usually takes 4 days and dress code i would say is smart but people were wearing casual, you would want to make a good first impression, pay attention always, asks questions, revise the booklet and last day ur meant to wear causal as its all psychical. Hope this helps.

Thanks for your help. Do you mean if we go through things quickly it will take 4 days including the final day of physical intervention training or 4 days plus the physical training day?

I'm weighing up whether to book a room nearby or catch the train in every day. The train would be cheaper but involved getting a 5:30 train every morning to get there for 8 so not sure what to do. If I only needed a hotel for 3 nights instead of 4 tht would probably say me!

nah including physical intervention 4 days if everything goes smooth. The first day training starts around 8 be there abit before, after that depends on the tutor you have but usually starts at 9 for the next three days, average finish time for each day i would say is around 4 so im not sure what youd prefer to do, there is alot of public transport to get there but also its during peak hours.

Got my interview tomorrow, just weighing up whether to wear smart shoes, suit and shirt, or go a bit more casual with jeans smart shoes shirt and suit jacket. Both with no tie

To those that have already been, what would you advise, what proportion of ppl there when u went wore full suits?

There was a range of clothing people wore, some wore casual, some smart neat, some suited booted, its depends really on what you take on as smart i wore shirt, tie, i nice smart jacket and trousers and shoes..from what i can remember my interview did make marks on my appearance so i would say it means a lot, (clean shaved) .
    Hope this helps.

If I get through to training a quick question about physical intervention. Do you have to be extremely strong?

no...the idea of physical intervention is that no matter your size, strength or build you can do the manoeuvres. They are simple! Like how to get lose if someone grabs your arm. One of the trainers (who was about 6ft 6 and 20stones) grabbed my arm tightly to demonstrate that I can still get loose. i'm only 5ft 6 and slim...and I was able to get loose with the correct manoeuvre
