Re: "I got an offer from Oxford for 2012 and now I want to chat!!!!" threadWhich college are you (fingers crossed!!) starting at again come Michaelmas?(Original post by fluteflute)
A is the top grade in both Highers and Advanced Highers
P.S. that font is rather annoyingly tricky to read

Re: "I got an offer from Oxford for 2012 and now I want to chat!!!!" threadWe are gluttons for punishment. The number of times I've come onto TSR to check if I'd made mistakes in exam papers(Original post by medbh4805)
stupidly I kept the question papers from a number of my exams so I spent this morning going through them and agonising over the stupid mistakes I made
fml imma fail
Dw, I'm sure most other people around the country have made far stoopider mistakes than you. That's what my dad would tell me after I'd complain about exams.
I guess i can also get quite obsessive about exam results. I've got a box of all my exam results/ reports going all the way back to year 11. And if I'm having a bad day, I can always just open up that little box of self-esteem....Ok, I don't really do that
, but I do have the box

It is? I always find serif fonts are much easier to read, personally. Maybe it'd help if I did it in a bigger size - size 2 is rather small, to be sure. How're things going with you?The bigger font makes it a lot better(Original post by SebCross)

Re: "I got an offer from Oxford for 2012 and now I want to chat!!!!" threadI know, I know, everyone keeps telling me to chill, but I just can't forget that exam(Original post by Banoffeepie16)

also, everyone in my year keeps saying that they think they've done really well on that paper, despite the fact that the questions were really weird
so now I'm literally getting to the stage where I think I may have mis-read or misunderstood the question, because everyone else is so confident! Worst, they don't think it's possible for me to fail, simply because I have an offer from Oxford, which is ridiculous, but there you go, some people at school honestly think my offer is unconditional or something...
OCR History seems to also have something of a reputation for unfair marking, I know a girl who was a straight A student given a D for one paper, and I also watched a youtube video of a girl predicted an A* who was given a U for her written paper, no joke. I guess these people must get remarks or something, but the fact that it can even happen is just
At least with an official reading list you can feel like you're doing something productive! In the unlikely scenario that you don't get into Oxford, I can imagine that the same or similar books would also be used by your insurance choice for your course, and so it has to be useful in some way or another, all of that reading!
Learning German must be quite time consuming, at the moment, I'm just taking driving lessons, do a bit of part time work, and attempting to meet up with friends. If all else fails I read, but mostly fiction, books I've wanted to read for ages and worry that once I start studying again I won't have time to look at.
I really don't know if I'm happy or not. See, my school opens at 9:30, track will probably have updated by 8, and I'll get an email, but say it's really bad news - I don't want to go into school crying, or having people run up and ask me, especially teachers, I'll be thinking about how I've let them down etc. My plan is to literally check my emails JUST before I go to school, (10 mins away from my house) because I don't want to be the last to know, and burst into tears, but at the same time I can't bear sitting at home for an hour, going crazy, not knowing what to do and having no one from school to advise me about Clearing or something if I've looked and it's bad news.
So basically, at the moment I'll check just before, or maybe not, but I'm not checking early...I might just not check, because like you said, I would hate to face everyone, students and teachers, with bad news...but if I go in without checking, and I haven't gotten in, I wonder how my teachers will break it to me, or whether they'll just hand me my results? See, that's what I worry about, not knowing and then seeing the look on their faces - I'll know instantly whether I'm in or not from that - and then I'd start crying in front of everyone and saying how sorry I am

I'm going to turn off my phone Internet and walk into school at ten thirty with my earphones in and a death glare warning people not to talk to me. I want to check my results that way, the traditional way, because I don't want to work myself into a panic if track goes down or if I get no email. There have also been the rare occurrences where track is wrong, and I don't want to go through that

Re: "I got an offer from Oxford for 2012 and now I want to chat!!!!" thread
I have pins to access my Edexcel and CCEA results very early in the morning (6 for edexcel and 7 for ccea I think), but the ones my offer depends on are OCR *flips table*
My school has to invite you to come in for results day by ringing you the previous day - basically if you do crap you have to stay home and wait for the post. Lol grammar schools so elitist

(year 8 here is year 7 in England). Unfortunately they aren't good for my self esteem since my first year at secondary school was awful academically.
It's funny reading what teachers said about you back then though.

Re: "I got an offer from Oxford for 2012 and now I want to chat!!!!" threadIt's awful though for the people who don't get a phone call, because they know then they aren't worthy of being in the school "Students with at least 2 As at A level" photograph(Original post by manic_fuzz)

Re: "I got an offer from Oxford for 2012 and now I want to chat!!!!" threadAwh do the majority get multiple As at A-level then? no doubt you'll be right at the front of that photograph(Original post by medbh4805)

Re: "I got an offer from Oxford for 2012 and now I want to chat!!!!" threadI wouldn't say the majority, but nearly half (around 95 out of 200). If you get 2As you get a plaque at Prizegiving, with the size and quality of the plaques increasing gradually according to how good your results are(Original post by manic_fuzz)

Same at GCSE, though I think the cut off there is 7As.
I was at GCSE

My results get uploaded to the college intranet at 7.30am. I trust the system, because it's worked the last three results days, but it's the earliest they've ever released them(Original post by medbh4805)

Re: "I got an offer from Oxford for 2012 and now I want to chat!!!!" threadYeah I think it's a service the school has to pay for from the exam boards. I think they're trying it out because they're considering changing from posting out hard copies to everyone because it's probably cheaper(Original post by fluteflute)

Re: "I got an offer from Oxford for 2012 and now I want to chat!!!!" threadI think the ones for 4As+ are quite fancy and made of glass. There is also the Principal's Cup for the best A level results but you have to give that back. You get trophies/plaques for the best individual subject results as well (which you have to give back), and then a fancy medal which you get to keep (+medals for 2nd and 3rd). 1st place in certain subjects gets you a bursary as well (£1000 p/a for 3 years for maths, £500 for Theatre Studies, and £3500 for best overall results in Science and Humanities each). Benefits of going to an old school with well heeled alumnae I suppose(Original post by manic_fuzz)
