    Hey there
    The questions they asked were really fair to be honest.
    From what I can remember this is what I got:
    They asked me about extra curricular stuff
    They asked me about the difference between ethical hacking and digital forensics
    They asked me about if I had read about hacking/e-crime in the news.

    Just be enthusiastic, and I'm sure that you will get in

    Hopefully see you in September!

    Re: Abertay Students 2012!!!
    I chose Ethical Hacking and counter measures, just because for me, it sounded so much more interesting ! Also I have wanted to do it for like a year and a half ^^

    For extra curricular - Music, socialising my friends.

    Difference between ethical hacking and DF is - Ethical Hacking is the prevention of a cyber crime such as a hacking attempt, and Digital Forensics is the aftermath of a cyber crime.

    For hacking in the news - I talked about anon and their "F you FBI Friday" - Essentially weekly attacks on the FBI's security and files. I also talked about wiki leaks, and the potential for cyber terrorism to occur and why there is a need in society for people to prevent these potential hacks.

    ^ Something along those lines!

    So no technical questions during the interview? I thought it was the opposite, at least for skills mentioned in the ps, cause anyone could say to be a top-level kernel programmer and then not be able to write a single line in C.

    I mean, if they choose just for the enthusiasm demonstrated by the candidates, the next EH's class will consist of around 200-250 people. I don't think anyone of us lacks of motivation.

    BTW, congrats to new EH students for their offers
    Hope we'll be classmates (I'm still waiting for my interview).

    When did you apply, for what course and did you apply through UCAS?

    (Original post by Gozo)
    Was at the ethical hacking/digital forensics interviews on the 1st of march, and I too got 2 unconditionals! Because I always wanted to do the hacking course, I accepted it instantly! I will see all you hackers when term starts!
    Congrats! Gozo We'll have to start thinking about your freshers week haha

    For those interested in EH at GCU, some days ago I sent them an email to find out more about the syllabus contents. Briefly, this is what I got answered today:

    -C programming but also developing experience with scripting languages (not mentioned);
    -Linux and Windows based systems;
    -open source software and environments (Backtrack, Helix, sleuth kit, wireshark, nmap, nessus, metasploit etc.);

    The lecturer also stated that the course is mainly focused on education rather than simply training and aims to give graduates an "understanding of the underlying principles, methodologies and concepts".

    Hope it can help.

    Hello all,

    Anyone else had interviews yet? Had mine today and heard back within a few hours, unconditional for both Ethical Hacking and Digital Forensics... cheesing!!

    If you're wondering about interview questions (SamBeau?) They just ask what you think of the uni, why you want to go etc. Nothing demanding, they keep it really informal and it's really nothing to worry about. It's more to see if you're really interested than if you have any pre-existing skills or the like.
    Thank you! If they're investigating my interest, they'll get a lot of it. On top of my IB syllabus ive started to read up on the skills and c# / c++ programming they do during the course (as well as the CHAOS module). Hopefully i won't do too bad on the interview.

    Haha oh, an odd question - on the chance that I do get accepted into Ethical Hacking at Abertay, any girls out there?

    Haha I've been told by a few of my friends stdying DF and EH I'll probably be the only girl =P

    Is anyone else concerned why there is no background info for lecturers of EH on the Abertay website? There is background info (Current research, past education, modules they teach, etc.) on other lecturers for fe. Networking module or other modules non-related to EH

    BTW thnx Saruman for the GCU info and GL on your interview in 2 days.

    Assuming Track hasn't been updated at all - I'd probably look at giving the Student Recruitment Office a call and see where your application is at, I've attached contact details for you.
