Re: The Last Book you Read..ohh allright then, i will...(Original post by Salgoud)
Can't comment on the film as I haven't seen it, but if you're considering to read the book - do it. It's fantastic, without doubt in my top-5. -
Re: The Last Book you Read..There were soo many major inconsistencies in the plot. The main character obviously has memory problems - that's what the whole book is about - so her stories never quite stacked up. However, even in the accounts of the other characters there were major contradictions.(Original post by darkxangel)
Could you expand on this please?
I'll put more info in spoiler tags - it doesn't really give anything away but some people might prefer not to read more details. I did read it a while ago so my account will probably be a little sketchy!!
Spoiler:ShowFirstly, her best friend Claire told her that her son had died, and a couple of chapters later began claiming that he'd come to visit for years, and not forgotten about her. This character is meant to be one of the innocent, honest ones without any form of memory issue so it didn't make sense to me.
There was also another inconsistency which I don't quite remember the details of, but it was something to do with the son again - one minute there were accounts of him visiting her, and the next he 'didn't know anything about where she was and had been trying to get in touch'. I think. Something along those lines!!
I just can't believe no one noticed such massive plot holes through the editing process. Hence my view that it was never proof read at all. -

The Satanic Verses.
4/5
Rushdie's style is difficult to get along with in places, but overall the plot was fantastic and certain passages were so beautifully written that I could excuse other less enjoyable parts of the book. Gibreel's recall of the murders he committed on the last couple of pages was particularly moving. -
Re: The Last Book you Read..
I've been on holiday, so have a few to update!
The Reader - Bernhard Schlink. 3/5. It was good enough, but very short and didn't have that much substance. Not overwhelmed by it.
The Leopard - Jo Nesbo. 4.5/5. Really good, really gripping. But, like the other book of Nesbo's I have read, I felt like there was one too many plot twists to be realistic. Very clever plot though.
The Shadow of the Wind - Carlos Ruiz Zafon - 4/5. Took a while to get in to it, but the second half was great. Very different to anything I've read before.
The Bell Jar - Sylvia Plath. 4/5. Really liked it, and glad I finally got round to reading it.
