I got an email and have to do a presentation on "Education is not the filling of a pail but the lighting of a fire."

why did you decide to apply in Scotland?
Thank you! I lived in Scotland all my life, then decided to move with family over to Northern Ireland nearly 1 and a half years ago but deciding on a Uni I had to apply for one back home and there is really only Stranmillis here which is very hard to get into.

Do you know if we are allowed que cards or if we have to say the presentation from memory?

yaaay, that's good that they're not doing interviews, even if it is still a bit of a wait, at least there's not the stress of an interview aswell! Anyone else apply for the modern languages specialism?
Where else have you applied to? Any news?

Yeahh I know Well I rang them to ask when I would be likely to hear about my application, and they said they'd decided not to do interviews and would be sending offers towards the end of February... still a bit of a wait, but it's better that having the interviews in April and then waiting to hear!! Which specialism did you apply to?
exactly (:. I applied to the Early Years specialism, wbu?

I was ill on the day of my interview so I found it horrific if I wasn't so ill I don't think I'd have done as badly as I did but I couldn't think straight so I don't think I did myself justice, which is probably why I was rejected (though I think I must have been on the 'maybe' list since it took them forever to decide, I didn't hear back for weeks!) It was just a one-on-two interview (one of me and two of them) and we didn't really talk about anything to do with education to be honest. They kept asking about creative things though, and I think I fell down when I said I wasn't Picasso and wasn't going to pretend to be because I didn't think it was right to lie just to get a place in a university - if they didn't want me for who I am, then I don't deserve a place...

It wasn't that scary, the worst bit was the wait outside - they were running very late by the time they got to me (I hate having a name at the end of the alphabet - it means I'm ALWAYS last at interviews!) when I got in, they were really friendly and tried to put me at ease and everything, it's just unfortunate that I was ill

I don't know if they'll do it the same this year though =/
ahhh i see. But you were right, there's no point in completely lying to get a place because if you don't live up to what you said, or forget what you said it could all go wrong. Thankyouu :-)

Modern Languages! I'm too impatient, still checking UCAS every half an hour even though they aren't going to send anything for another month haha. Where else have you applied?

Aww that's nice to have heard from one though! I haven't heard about my application from anywhere, though I only applied to two...because I want to do Spanish and Primary Education. But I rang Aberdeen on Monday to see when I might hear, and they said they have cancelled their MA Education Joint Honours programme for this year, and are reforming it, because of the Donaldson review, and so my application will automatically be put forward for the Hispanic Studies degree but I can't do Education too :/ There's always the PGDE, but it's a little annoying, especially because if I'd have known before the deadline I would have applied to a whole load of other places! I'm just really anxious to hear from anyone! Sorry rant over. Anyway, do you have to prepare anything for your interview?

It is, I was so happy to get the letter, but I'm still so impatient to hear from the others! Oh no, that's a shame, and really annoying - they should of told you sooner then you'd of been able to change your application, so it's only Stirling now that's doing the course you want now?
You can add choices in track though can't you, so you'd still be able to apply to other places if you wanted to, I know it's after the deadline but you would still be in with a chance Me too, the waiting is the worst part.
I don't have to prepare anything no, they don't want you do a presentation, I'm just reading everything I can about the course and CfE and stuff like that.

I've applied for a joint honours education and behavioural studies at Aberdeen. Does that mean it is cancelled too?! Do you know if we get to change choices then or what will happen?

Ahh sorry...I think so :| You should ring admissions, that's what I did. They told me they would be emailing everyone and then sending a letter to everyone this week to confirm all the details...I have been refreshing UCAS, the applicant portal and my hotmail permenantly for four days now little anxious! What they said was that because of the huge inconvience (not half!!), everyone who applied for a joint education course would get their application but forward for the other subject, and that no marks would be taken away because of the personal statement being about teaching etc. But still, I now need to know if I'm actually going to get a place on the, in my case, Hispanic Studies course, because then I have to choose between that and the PGDE or the Stirling course, if I get on the Stirling course :| ...ahhhh. Oh my days, wish they'd hurry up already! But I'm sure if you wanted to swap courses you could, as it's all their fault. Ooh and it says on Aberdeen's website that entry to Aberdeen is entry to a degree course, not a specific subject, so it's very flexible if you change your mind? Hope this is some help, sorry to have to break the news to you, let me know how it goes! xxx

Why you want to do teaching? Why you chose this university? How you will benefit from that particular course? Maybe some stuff about current educational issues and stuff about your work experience, all they have is our application so they'll probably ask more about the things you've written about on your personal statement, I don't know, this is just from what I've read about other interviews! You'll have to let me know how it goes and what we have to do, mines a week today so I'm just reading as much stuff as i can between now and then :/ Good luck
