Re: Summer Analyst M&A at Lazard, Houlihan Lokey, Greenhill, Rothschild, GleacherOh, alright then, tbh if you read through the forums a bit you'll notice that a lot of people got rejections from them in late December time and I'm basing my guess that they've finished recruiting now based on that and the fact that they started a while back and if they aren't done yet I'd be very surprised. But its up to you if you think its worth an app or not.(Original post by cl_steele)
i dunno on their website theyre still recruiting for positions starting this summer, although i may have found something to what this thread is about, if so apolgies

Re: Summer Analyst M&A at Lazard, Houlihan Lokey, Greenhill, Rothschild, Gleacher
ps. for those who are curious, rang up the Cornell people today and spoke to the chap who interviewed me and he told me that most likely we'll be hearing results for the AC next week, probably first few days of February, apparently they're running a little bit late.

Re: Summer Analyst M&A at Lazard, Houlihan Lokey, Greenhill, Rothschild, Gleacher
Got an odd rejection from Rothschild last week. Like I didn't even receive an email but I checked the status of my application and it stated that the position I had applied to was closed ? Really odd..has anybody else experienced that?

Re: Summer Analyst M&A at Lazard, Houlihan Lokey, Greenhill, Rothschild, GleacherLazard is taking on 14 interns, Roths will definitely be taking on a few more. The rest all have single digit intakes.(Original post by thegeniouc93)
Do you guys know how many summer analysts each one is hiring? -
Re: Summer Analyst M&A at Lazard, Houlihan Lokey, Greenhill, Rothschild, Gleacher
Its ****ing tough at boutiques atm. Rang up the Cornell partnership to get some feedback on why I didn't get through the Greenhill first round, turns out I got 90% in the numerical and had all the core competencies and technical stuff down. Their reason for it was because I didn't seem to be the right "fit" for Greenhill, which is translation for they wouldn't like me. That was irksome.

Re: Summer Analyst M&A at Lazard, Houlihan Lokey, Greenhill, Rothschild, GleacherNot sure if it's that; these boutiques have definite cultures, and if you're not the right person then you won't fit in too well. What was the numerical test like?(Original post by islami1991)

Boutiques are the place to be. I start full time at Rothschild in July. PM me with any Qs.
Just to let you know, the summer internship there is incredibly tough to convert - only 3/17 last summer managed to. 80% of their grads come from long term (6+ mth) off cycle internships.
Fantastic bank to be at though, in terms of culture and dealflow. Not that I'm impartial. -

Re: Summer Analyst M&A at Lazard, Houlihan Lokey, Greenhill, Rothschild, GleacherTo be honest I felt like it was the toughest one I've done so far, 30 questions in 30 minutes (which was a big surprise because in the e-mail they sent me they said it was 10 questions in 10 minutes). It was a mix of questions, with GCSE level knowledge, you're fine if you know your formulae for sums of arithmetic and geometric series and if you're good with percentages and ratios. But some of them require a fair bit of thought and its hard to get it done in time. And I know that the culture factor is definitely as issue, but can't blame me for being pissed off since what's gotten me rejected is something which is frankly a bit beyond my control :P. Still, the Cornell lot were really helpful with their feedback and they've been pretty good to me thus far so I haven't got too many complaints.(Original post by Industrious Orca)

Re: Summer Analyst M&A at Lazard, Houlihan Lokey, Greenhill, Rothschild, GleacherSounds like a nightmare, especially considering you don't have a calculator!(Original post by islami1991)

I feel as thought every boutique has a slightly different culture and there's a lot of scope as to where people fit in. Cornell probably interviewed loads of people and only about 10% actually fitted Greenhill. At least if you showed you're good they will know that, and they will have a better idea of you as a person and know which firms you would fit well with. -
Re: Summer Analyst M&A at Lazard, Houlihan Lokey, Greenhill, Rothschild, GleacherI suppose that's true, its just tough to swallow, given my feedback immediately following the interview was so positive. But I guess you can't win 'em all over. And yeah, lack of calculator was a massive irritant, especially since some of the questions involved horrendous amounts of calculation. I remember one of the was to find the sum of all 3 digit numbers divisible by 3. Do that in a minute without a calculator!(Original post by Industrious Orca)

Re: Summer Analyst M&A at Lazard, Houlihan Lokey, Greenhill, Rothschild, Gleacher
Hey guys, interesting discussion about prestigious boutiques! Regarding Rothschild, I have a very good friend who worked there for almost a year, and he claimed that the culture is quite stuck up, not very friendly and everyone tries to compete with everyone in there. Not much team atmosphere, but you rather have to "fight" on your own. Also, you do not get to work closely with MDs, something important to me. But hey, maybe this was only his experience. However, many first year analysts left Rothschild after a year which is not a very good sign. Nevertheless, I personally believe they are still a very good name in Europe (even if their reputation is going downhill in the USA)+any culture should be better than Lazard's? From my research this year and reading tens of reviews, career guides and anonymous careers rankings, I came to the conclusion that the culture at Jefferies, Greenhill and Houlihan Lokey is the best on the street. Also, Jefferies and Houlihan Lokey apparently had a record of applications this year; at least this is what I understood from recruitment.
As far as Greenhill's recruitment is concerned, I think the test is to evaluate your ability to cope with stress and not so much to see if you can solve numerical examples. I'm sorry about that islami. I personally believe that the whole recruiting process at Greenhill is very disorganized and they should include actual members of the bank and let them judge, if the fit is fine or not..Wait a minute, Cornell Partnership also interviews for other boutiques, if I understood correctly? How can they judge if someone is the right fit if they are just an outsourced partner and have never worked inside the bank? -
Re: Summer Analyst M&A at Lazard, Houlihan Lokey, Greenhill, Rothschild, Gleacher
Cornell just does the initial screening
And yes, Cornell does the recruiting for Greenhill, DC Advisory Partners and more I guess (and supposedly Qatalyst now judging from the previous post). Lazard used to be one of their clients as well up until summer 2011.
I wouldn't consider RS a boutique, let alone consider its culture to be similiar to one but hours at RS London do tend to be better there than at Lazard. In the end RS churns out a lot of (big and small) deals so quantitively speaking you'll obviously be working on a lot of stuff (deals but also lots of pitches...).Last edited by Euribor; 01-02-2012 at 22:04. -
Re: Summer Analyst M&A at Lazard, Houlihan Lokey, Greenhill, Rothschild, GleacherI've never heard of DC Advisory Partners. Could you tell me a little about the culture and the kind of stuff they get up to?(Original post by Euribor)
