Ska-Punk Appreciation Thread
Ok here's the deal: in my eternal search to find the best new (and old for that matter) ska-punk bands I am starting to struggle looking through the masses of unknown (at least to me) bands that have an online presence either through myspace or purevolume.
So I thought that those of you that are into this sort of music could share the load and rate any bands you come across and maybe give a link to a page where I could listen to them.
Here is one to start:
Axis of evil: listen at http://www.purevolume.com/axisofevil
I thought they were a decent enough band but maybe just a little rough round the edges. Nice original horn sections though. -

Asian Man Records - www.asianmanrecords.com
This is such a great label for ska/punk, and home of some brilliant bands. Go to the Bands section and check some of them out.
My personal favourites are MU330, The Chinkees, Link 80 and Potshot.
Edit: You'll notice that Alkaline Trio are on the list of bands, they were originally on Asian Man before they signed to Vagrant... Mike Park who owns the label was a massive support to the band in their early days, and they quite often take him on tour with them.Last edited by half face; 07-02-2006 at 14:00. -
Re: Ska-Punk Appreciation Thread
Here are another couple:
Straighter Than Pete can be heard at http://www.myspace.com/straighterthanpete
They are very good musically, very catchy, bouncy and fun but the lead singer just doesn't have a great voice even by punk standards.
Secondly we have Schoolboy Error, who I think have been mentioned around these parts before. They can be found at http://www.myspace.com/schoolboyerror.
They are a very talented British band who I'm sure some of you have probably seen live as they have played with No Comply and Adequate 7 among others. -
Re: Ska-Punk Appreciation Thread
Oh do you guys know about 28 Days? The band, from Melbourne - they're an Aussie Ska-Punk band I used to like years ago (we're talking like 6 years here - brings back all the memories from junior high
), so just thought I'd ask.
And Grinspoon (another hot punk/rock Aussie band) is also quite popular over here where I live. -

Haven't heard of those two. Could you give us some direct links if possible?

Awesome. I've seen the latter twice, and the former once in concert

Re: Ska-Punk Appreciation ThreadYeah I remember 28 Days, although I never really listened to more than a couple of tracks. They were pretty popular over here in 2001 I think, my sister saw them at Reading Festival that year. Are they still together?(Original post by danni_bella83)

Re: Ska-Punk Appreciation ThreadSounds about right to me; that was around the time when the Kerrang! channel arrived.(Original post by jeff2233)

I wondered what had happened to 28 Days. I never particularly liked them but it's odd when bands disappear/channels are no longer interested. -

An another...
A-1-Star at http://www.purevolume.com/a1star
Only 2 songs but both are worthy of a listen. Maybe a bit on the slow side for my ska-punk tastes.
