Been listening to a lot of Maya Jane Coles (Ritual Union remix :sogood:) and Julio Bashmore, and a few other odd tracks from these genres.
This thread definitely needs to stick around...

Gotta love Maya.

Somewhat relevant since this is so ill-defined:

120-140 bpm catagory is pretty much spot on. I'm amazed at the hype for Moscas 'Bax'. I'm a huge fan of the guy but that track was a let down for me.

Also, Skream mix, heavy on the house:

^^^^^ That Skream set, so sick.!
Wish I was there, same night had Modeselektor, Squarepusher, Pearson Sound, Four Tet, Hudson Mohawke & D/R/U/G/S.

Re-reading previous sentence, why the **** wasn't I there?! :colonhash:

Haha, i saw it the week before, and considered making the journey for it. That lineup is the best i've seen. Problem is you would have missed quality if you went there as there was almost too much good stuff to see all of it!

I've remembered that I did want to but couldn't get any mates up for it... Should've made a bigger deal tbh, I always seem to get into artists after I've missed the opportunity to see them (Squarepusher and HudMo for example).

Ahaha I can imagine you just sitting there stricken with indecision about going for it.

Yeah, that's very true.
Thing about WHP is that though the sets are generally quite small it's pretty easy to get in and out of the crowds and check out the different rooms.
Or well it was like that for the BNR night there, all the drum and bass nights are always overflowing tbf.

Just seen some Shindig Newcastle dates announcements. James Zabiela & Ben Ufo and Seth Troxler & Maya Jane Coles.

Don't give a **** what genre this falls into, just amazing.

Maya is a bit of a goddess. Imagine if her and Julio had a kid together. He/she would rule the world.

I actually really liked Bax. Did you not like done me wrong either? The tracks seemed to polarise opinion but I love both. I can see why people wouldn't like bax though, it is a bit simple (but effective). Need to get into more good dubstep, all i can say is that I love Phaeleh (he is mentioned in one of the categories). His album has such a lovely feel, apparently at outlook he played as the sun rose and people were moved to tears.

**** Julio, she's mine :frown:

The thing is, I don't even know what's wrong with Bax. The groove is really nice, it feels like I've known that bassline all my life. It's danceable as hell, but not really enjoyable to listen to as a whole. It feels quite "stabby", as in, the sounds don't flow into each other, they don't interact. Individually the melody, bass, drums and vocals are nice. But for me, to make a track really good, they all need to work together.

If you have more of his stuff, check out 3:00 on Square One VIP. He gets a kinda crescendo going. The bass, stabs and vocals are all working perfectly together. Pads doing its own cool thing, drums are just keeping the drive.

Just realised I tried to describe the Night Slugs sound...this is probably a failure.

But still, SBTRKT is a ****ing master at this. Listen to this one. Notice how in the loop, the drums take a break for a beat. Thats when the bassline goes from a higher pitched tune, into a punchy low. Gives it a nice, flowing feel.

Dubstep, but:

Plastician, Coki, Kryptic, Phaleah, etc. Ridiculous lineup. Starting in a few minutes.
Saw Maya Jane Coles, Joy Orbison and a few others for just jack birthday yesterday. Was sick. Only not too long got in. 2 hours sleep last night (or morning). Successful night!

Just noticed something fun in Mayas tracks. These two have the exact same loop, one as synth, one as percussion. Guess she likes that rolling sound.

Haha! Yeah, I go through too many spell where I'll only listen to Animal Collective.

Yeah caught all of the Zomby ****. So hilarious. I think the best bit is that Russian singer kicking with, "Zomby where's my ****ing money." I'm going to continue to believe Zomby wrote it because I adore that song so much.
