Natural Sciences at Bath

Hey guys

I was just wondering if anyone who has an offer to study natural sciences at Bath next year has confirmed the subject that they wish to major in? i.e. Biology/Chemistry/Physics/Pharmacology.

I have an offer for A*AA but was just wondering when we have to confirm this choice by? I had an email a while back asking me and I replied saying I was unsure between Chemistry and Biology but had no response back saying if this was a good enough indication for the time being...

Thanks for any info!

I had an offer for Bath (AAA yesssss no worrying about getting an A*!)
I haven't had to confirm my major subject though :s-smilie:. I had to for Birmingham so I was wondering if Bath did it too. I received my offer 25th October as well so i thought they would have asked by now
:s-smilie:.
Are you using Bath as your firm by any chance?

Yeah, I had an email but then they never followed it up when I replied :s-smilie:
And I have an offer from Birmingham tooo!

I'm not 100% sure yet, it depends on if i get my cambridge offer... (Pretty sure I won't though cause my interview went awfully!) so in that case bath will be my firm

Thanks though. Im glad its not just me that hasn't confirmed, was getting abit worried, ahaa :P

Hey, I do natural sciences at Bath now, i'm in my first year.

I'm pretty sure you don't have to confirm your first choice until after results day when you get sent a booklet with all the units in telling you exactly what you would study with each one. You then send this off in the post by a deadline so that they know before you start.

They want to know what you think you might major in at the moment so that when you go to the post offer open day they can give you a personalised folder with a bit more info on that subject in.

Hope to be of help

Thankyou!

Just out of interest are you pleased with the course and bath uni overall? :P

yeah, i love the course!
the uni doesn't have a natural sciences department, and you have your chemistry lectures with the chemists and biology lectures with the biologists etc, but its well run. it also means that you'll make friends with people on different courses as well
I love bath! the campus is gorgeous, the city is lovely and i know it may have a rep for being quiet, but there's always stuff on. the SU has a club night twice a week and there are a few good clubs in town.

Hi, i'm currently doing a maths module (compulsory in the first year, you do either foundation maths or maths for scientists depending on whether you did maths to A-level), inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, human physiology and pharmacology. You have to pick two units from either biology, chemistry, physics or pharmacology, which you'll specialise in.
i like the teaching. it's mostly lectures, and i have up to 3 tutorials a week. the timetables change each week. you don't do any practicals to begin with, but then you'll have a block of for example, pharmacology labs, once a week for 4 weeks.
Some lecturers are better than others, and some have different styles. All of the lecture notes are available on the internal website, so even if you don't get what's being said, you can print the notes out and look over them afterwards.

Thank you so much! Just another question- what's the chemistry department like? I've looked at the league tables and apparently bath is not as good for chemistry. And I want to specialise in chemistry so it's a pretty major factor.
Thanks again!

So now that you're almost done with your first year, any other insights for potential freshers? What will you take next year ? We visited a couple of weeks ago and saw the dept office so I wasn't sure what you meant by there not being a dept...where had you firmed/insuranced when you applied?

Did they specify the courses? What's your insurance choice?

No they didn't specicify and I'm majoring in physics, my insurance is Exeter with AAA, which I would be very happy going too

Hi I've just handed in the letter confirming my subject streams but I'm still not 100% sure on my choice I decided to major in chemistry with pharmacology
Does anyone study pharmacology at Bath now, if so how is it?
