    Re: University of ulster ?
I have decided to stay in a B&B because in first year we are prob only in 3-4 days max per week and we are also only in college for six weeks and then out, god knows where, on placement.

This way, I can travel to wherever my placements are and stay around there.

With a house there is deposits, utility bills eg oil, electricity, wifi etc etc and if Iam only there three days of the weeks for six weeks, I don't want to be anchored to a house where all these bills are payable with people who might be using the facilities in the house seven day a week. I am going home whenever I am not in college or on placement.

As far as college accomodation, an en-suite room is 83 pounds per weeks and the fact that we are not going to be there half the time made me decide against this. There are no allowance for nursing students so we have to pay for the whole school year whether or not we are out on placements. The partying and noise would also be annoying for me.(I am 36).

After weighing it all up, for me personally, the bursary will be spent on a good quality room that is quiet to study and i get breakfast everyday and my Bus home. I can't wait to start either.

Hey yeah I heard that there was quite a few nurses that stay down in Magee and I also think they try to put the nurses together in a house..so the earlier u apply more chance of living with other nurses..Im still undecided wether to stay or not but more than likely say I will..what do u think ur gona do?

but sure wen u apply u pick which accomodation u want and it says it is random, so you dont no who you are staying with until you arrive!

has anyone looked at duncreggan village??

    xx

I spoke to the lady in accomodation in magee and she said that you can never guarantee who you are going to be living with but if you request mature students etc that they will try to put you in with them but no guarantee. She also said that they make no concessions financially for nurses who may not be using the accomodation if they are far away on placement. You still have to pay the same as students who are there full time all year.

I am trying to find out if there are local people in the area who do some kind of lodgings whereby there would be no deposit, utility bills etc and you could move where ever your placement is. Other than this, it will be bed and breakfast probably for me.

Even if i was a young student in my 20s, I would still see student accommodation as a complete waste of money if i was away for six weeks on every placement. I prefer to get what i pay for.

I think even queens have appropriate accomodation for student nurses but magee do not have this!!!

Hi, I think we only apply for student finance if going to England. For Ulster, we will be contacted about applying for the bursary after the results come out in August x

Heya, I'm going to apply soon for Duncreggan. My mum's a nurse and she asked some of the students on her ward if many stayed down in Magee and apparently a lot do. This is mainly due to the fact that in first year they are in uni at least 3 days a week and often get called in for extra days at short notice. I live about 1.5 hours away so I wouldn't want all that travelling for 3/4 days a week lol. She says less live in during 2nd and 3rd year as it is less hours in uni. x
