I'll try books and film. I have read a lot of books and watched even more films but I think it'll be interesting to see what I do in 2012.

    So here's my accounts:

I'm up for books and films. I read far too many books, maybe actually seeing the list will make me slow down, and I've never watched half the films people assume everyone's seen so maybe this will motivate me

So I can get some goodreads recommendations I'm making a shelf called read-in-2012 for keeping track this year

Thank you. So how much time do you think, on average, you'll be devoting to this per day?

At the minute I'm trying to catch up on 2011 films I missed before I forget about them; Drive, The Ides of March, Source Code, Submarine, Red State etc.

Per day? Not a lot probably. I'll keep updating the sites as I watch things, and I might try and do a post every week or two with everything I've done, but apart from that there's not a whole lot that will need time. And besides, if I start trying to spend a load of time doing something I'm far more likely to get bored and stop after a month or so. :p:

Fair enough. It is a long year, after all. Well, best of luck. Do keep us informed.

Re: How much culture can you fit in a year? A TSR experiment
I need to read more than I do. It's a depressing thought that I read about 50-70 books a year during primary school and only 3-5 a year during highschool and I never read anything that was outside my course material at uni, haha.

So on GoodReads I've set myself a target for 50 books this year. It's day 1 and I've read 1 book - Lao Tzu: Tao Te Ching. It was an interesting book and some Taoist views might resonate with me for a while but it's very disjointed (as are most Chinese texts around that period I'm guessing).

Still a good start for me... I hope I keep this up. Next I will either read Great Expectations or Gulliver's Travels

What book to start with... Was having a craving for the girl with the dragon tattoo :holmes:

also, what would be a good target for someone who hasn't read anything the past year?

and a good target for films as well?

Along the same lines as above guys, what're your estimated 'targets' for all of the areas you've signed up for?

As a side note, watched my first film of the year: Rise of the Planet of the Apes

I would love to say 1-2 books every fortnight but in reality I would be happy with a book a month during school time.

For music, I'll try for a new album from a new band I haven't listened too before every week or 2
