Well basically the report says that Britain hands out over 9 billion pounds worth of aid every year, a substantial amount to Brazil which is richer than us, what is the reasoning to that! Also Britain gives over 1 billion pounds to India, understandly there is a large percentage of Indians living on the poverty line but surely their government should do something about it. They have their own space program and have the most millionaires and billionaires compared to anywhere else in the world. This foreign aid could be used for such greater use at home, ie NHS, education system, apprenticeships.. I dont understand this is beyond reasoning for me!

understandly

Haha, what?? :ahee:

Anyway, in reference to your post:

The GDP and GNI is lower. Clearly a government would not be so stupid to give aid to a wealthy and prospering country - it's like Holland giving aid to America!
Brazil's nominal GDP per capita (the most widely used figure for income per head) - $12,422 (2011 estimate)

UK's nominal GDP per capita - $36,119 (2011 estimate)

I think that says it all really. Reports that Brazil has now entered the club of rich countries are sadly premature.

The figures for India are of course far more extreme - $1,527 - about 1/20th that of the UK!!

Simply not true in either absolute or relative terms.

Possibly a joke about their low denomination currency (Rupee)?

Worth considering...
What needs to be sorted out, is for the UN to hold talks on how to decrease population in the world, maybe then there wouldn't be so many , dying children being born into poverty.

Their GDP per capita is much lower and the vulnerable are ignored by the government. Have you not seen the favelas?

So? The favelas are Brazil's problem and it is up to them how they want to deal with them. We should not provide them with aid unless we recieve financial gain from it.

It would be better to reduce spending on aid and reduce taxes.

we should really be finding ways to sort out corrupt government than giving them money...

Good idea but what can we do?

the government have all control thus being the government and whoever we elected gets bought out by lobbyists and greedy business owners looking for tax breaks

Brazilian GDP-$2,087,889,553,822
British GDP- $2,248,831,038,714

Brazilian GNI per capita: $9,390
British GNI per Capita: $38,370

source: world Bank Data 2010

It only recently became richer than us (as a total of course; they have about 3 times our population though so their hardly millionaires).
