Re: The Spanish Learners' Society!
thanks, i also have another problem i am confused by the order of words to make a sentence in spanish. I know that adjectives come before a noun but for other stuff like this i'm not sure;
voy a hacerlo manana - im going to do it tomorrow
manana voy a madrid - im going to madrid tomorrow
I have seen these 2 sentences in a book i am learning spanish from. Why is ''manana'' on different sides of the sentence. If I said. ''manana voy a hacerlo'' would it make sense? -
Re: The Spanish Learners' Society! You can say it both ways. Maybe the difference, if any, is in how it sounds and a slight difference in meaning too. For example, if you say "voy a hacerlo mañana", sounds like you're answering to someone who's asking "¿Cuándo vas a hacer XYZ?", or as if whatever you will do is implicit for you and your listener. Instead, if you say "mañana voy a hacerlo", sounds more like an affirmation, instead of an answer. Anyway, this is very relative and it depends on the context (and both ways are correct, the difference is minimal)(Original post by Charzhino)

As for the second phrase you mention, it's ok either way. Maybe "mañana voy a Madrid" sounds a bit more natural and also puts a bit of emphasis on mañana. -
Re: The Spanish Learners' Society!
Hey guys, I'm literally just about to start learning Spanish and I just wanted to ask about the differences between Spanish spoken in Spain and Spanish spoken in Latin America.
Is it quite different? Would I be better off learning Spanish geared more to the Americas (since travelling there is the primary reason for learning the language)? -
Re: The Spanish Learners' Society! The differences are mostly in pronunciation of some sounds (c,s, z and j) and the use of "ustedes"/"vosotros" (plural for "you") and the related grammatical forms for each one.(Original post by Zubby77)

In my opinion if you can learn Latin American Spanish, it would be better since you would get used to how it sounds and it would make it easier for you to understand it and make yourself understood when you're here. Though the differences between both are not crucial to establish a conversation, I think things will be easier for you if you learn Latin American Spanish. (I talk from my own experience: I'm more used to US English and sometimes I have a hard time understanding spoken British English but I haven't lived in any English speaking country yet, so I haven't had the opportunity of developing my listening and oral skills thoroughly, anyway).
In case you only have the possibility of learning the Spanish spoken in Spain, you will be fine too, only you would have to get used to the Spanish spoken here when you come. (There are many different regional variations here in Latin America, anyway!)
Hope this information is useful. If you have more doubts, don't hesitate to ask.Last edited by lazaro7; 15-07-2012 at 02:56. -
Re: The Spanish Learners' Society!... and whilst 'tengo que coger el tren a las dos' may be acceptable in peninsular Spanish, don't say it in Mexico or Latin America(Original post by Zubby77)

Hola! (Can't get the other exclamation mark...)
I'm doing Spanish GCSE and some of these websites look really helpful.
I'm just kind of worried because I've already done my french a year early and it was really easy, but I only started spanish in year 9 and I just don't know all the vocabulary. We did a past higher tier paper for our internal exam at the end of the year and somehow I did ok, but I'm scared it won't go like that for the real thing! Oh, and to all the native Spanish speakers, what are some good phrases to use in writing and speaking assessments?

Re: The Spanish Learners' Society!La mayoría, sí :P pero hay que decir que hay algunos programas buenos... no lo he visto, acabo de buscar Belén Esteban en 'Google Images' y dios mío hay algunas fotos malos no crees :P(Original post by Gales)
Crees que TVE es un montón de mierda? No has visto Telecinco... Siempre hablan de Belén Esteban, la versión espanola de Katie Price

Re: The Spanish Learners' Society!
Trying to learn a little conversational Spanish - downloaded a few apps to get basic ideas and looked up token phrases but on your own it gets tedious rather quickly

Anyone willing to enter a brief written Spanish conversation with me over the next couple of days? I just want to be able to recognise and understand basic phrases. Feel free to PM
