Re: AQA Geography GEOG4a February 2nd 2012Don't worry, it's really just about giving model answers to questions about your fieldwork on the first half, and justifying the statistical techniques on the second half. It's not like they're going to ask you about Volcanoes, how they're formed, etc. Just stay calm and do some practise past papers!(Original post by quarton1)
Stress!
text book and teachers are actually useless! - started teaching the next topic before we had even done this exam!
Cannot cope, gunna actually fail -
Re: AQA Geography GEOG4a February 2nd 2012No this is for 4a, investigations paper. Have you done any fieldwork?(Original post by cotters211)
I read through this thinking it was all for the Geography 4B paper..... and still not sure. the two sound very similar. on geog 4b would we get a question on how something has "improved our geographical understanding"?!?!?!?!!? if so, i have never been told those words before!!!!! major panic now!!!!!
Have a look at past papers on aqa,

I find it useful, Good Luck

Re: AQA Geography GEOG4a February 2nd 201260% is like an A* on this paper lmao.(Original post by S.Pink)
Not doing great I got to admit, have only had one paper marked and got 60% on generous marking and then the rest I have done with the mark schemes and my book!
Im aiming for an A* and hope this wont drag my result down, got a A in as
GEO4A GCE GEOGRAPHY UNIT 4A 60 A = 39 B=35 C=31 27 23 19
39/60 = 65% -
Re: AQA Geography GEOG4a February 2nd 2012No way! Makes me feel a lil better but the paper is so unpredictable! Fingers crossed for tomorrow(Original post by acedlol)

Re: AQA Geography GEOG4a February 2nd 2012Seriously? I'm getting like 80-90%'s (In mark)! 0_o - Does that mean I'm pretty much guaranteed an A*?!(Original post by acedlol)

GEO4A GCE GEOGRAPHY UNIT 4A 60 A = 39 B=35 C=31 27 23 19

EDIT: A better way to phrase this question, since you have to get 90% on UMS overall for A* - what is required for 90% UMS on this paper?
Quarton1: Just interpret the results. You may be asked to say how you did your own statistical test (Often Spearman's) or justify the test, but they won't ask you to do the whole thing.Last edited by HotfireLegend; 01-02-2012 at 19:38. -
Re: AQA Geography GEOG4a February 2nd 2012The main thing about the 12-markers are just to make points.(Original post by Heyimdec)
Really not looking forward to this..
Been getting between 35-47 marks on past papers, but it's so hard to get the marks. Oh well, hoping to just waffle my way through the 12 markers.
For example, one asking about location:
-Where exactly it is located (Nearest towns, cities, seas, location in country, etc)
-Why you went there and not elsewhere (Distance, arresting factors at other locations, etc)
-If it is a public area, mention this (No private permission needed)
-(Ideal?) Size of location (Didn't take so long to study, but was a representative sample)
-If it is a conserved area, mention this (Less interference from humans)
-Link it to the aim, preferably all the way through
I find mentioning 3 and developing them fully gives full marks. Or mention 4, if you like. -
Re: AQA Geography GEOG4a February 2nd 2012Thanks, that's quite useful. I've looked at the mark schemes, and they're so vague! God knows how the examiners manage to level your answers..(Original post by HotfireLegend)

Re: AQA Geography GEOG4a February 2nd 2012Sure, if you don't mind? I won't keep you too long.(Original post by HotfireLegend)
No problem. I can give you more help if you like?
What sort of points would I need to make for this sort of question;
Assess how useful you found your investigation to your understanding of geography. (12 marks)
I know I need to write points about enforcing the material I have learnt in classrooms with the support from underpinning geographical theories, but I don't think I could stretch that for 12 marks.

Re: AQA Geography GEOG4a February 2nd 2012
The grade boundaries are so low for Geography it's not that hard to get a really good grade, wish the grade boundaries could swap with biology and maths!
I find the section on the investigation fine, if you go through past papers the same questions come up and there's only so much they can ask you about it
It's basically just a more boring version of GEOG2 last year, so tedious! And so long after my other exams too, doesn't help when I'm completely out of exam mode :P -
Re: AQA Geography GEOG4a February 2nd 2012Sure, I don't mind - I have the exam tomorrow too so this is good practise(Original post by Heyimdec)

-Remember you can state good or bad points
-Say how the different sampling methods you used helped you understand why they are used (To help you find the conclusions)
-Say how the different analysis methods you used helped you understand why they are used (To help you understand what the data is showing)
-Say what you learnt from the conclusions of the study (E.G: The study shows that the beach follows the theoretical model of succession)
-Feel free to link the conclusions to different areas of Geog if you can (E.g: Flooding, Arresting Factors, etc)
-Link conclusions to cause and effect if you like (Succession means that the National Trust managing the Sand Dune may have to keep updating their management techniques over a long period of time, thus costing them money all the time, etc)
-The study assisted your evaluation skills, helping you understand how methodology can be improved

Sample question?(Original post by Frankie321)
I could do with a few pointers on what to write when linking back to the aim!! I don't really know what to say to get the marks!! Thanks in advance!!! -
