So basically it's worth making a trip to Tesco or somewhere and buying the cheapest black suit that isn't completely naff? Cheers guys!

Yes, but completely naff is ok. (Trust me.)

Not black! Charcoal!
Any advice on which college for MEng? Looking at Wadham which I quite fancied the tutors seem to be from the other engineering disciplines.

I wanted a smallish, central college but am really confused by all the choices. Help would be appreciated.

I am planning on going to the open day on Friday but I need to narrow down the clleges so that I can see the ones most suitable.

Admittedly I don't know much about engineering but the tutor in your college doesn't need to specialise in your line of engineering, for you to be at that college. I studied music and had a world-famous composer as a tutor. I had no interest in composing and thought/think his music is, um, "bizarre" (to put it politely).

When it came to me specialising in world and pop music, he merely sent me off down the road to St John's, which worked very well indeed!

If you're looking into smallish, central colleges, what about the Turl Street colleges (ie Exeter, Lincoln, and Jesus) or Brasenose? You might also want to consider Hertford, Corpus Christi, and Oriel

What TLG said re teaching: if your tutors don't specialize in the areas you want to pursue, they'll just send you to another college if the need arises. Don't worry about that.

I don't know about MEng but take a look at Jesus on Turl Street. Certainly small and very central!

I'm not sure about the tutors disciplines, but you might want to consider Univ. It's not the smallest but is by no means large, is pretty central, and has a special Maths week for those whose courses involve Maths where you start term a week earlier

See this page here and you can look at the tutors interests and the course at Univ - http://www.univ.ox.ac.uk/content/engineering-science-0
When it mentioned food costs being charged for does that mean you pay whether or not you eat in, or are they all pay as you go?

Can you provide us with the link? Can't quite understand from what you've told us.
is engineering at oxford a renowned course? how does it compare to engineering at imperial, loughborough, cambridge etc?

If you apply as a mature student to a college that isn't Harris Manchester, will you most likely be pooled and have your application sent to Harris Manchester anyway?

I'm probably applying to do Economics and Management, btw - I'd be 22 at the time of starting if I got in. Am taking A-levels over the next 2 years

You wouldn't be reallocated before interview for that reason, it would just be because of the amount of applicants as all applications are considered the same, and 22 isn't exactly very mature! You do have a reasonably high chance of being invited for an extra interview at Harris Manchester though!
How much consideration do Oxford give a fourth AS Level? I did well in three - AAA with a UMS avg. of 98.7% - then got a C in my fourth AS. I want to apply for law so there are no required/preferred subjects and I'm dropping the C, but how much will the C grade count against me? (A's in Geog, Bio and Economics, C in History).

I know other factors are involved (LNAT, perso statement, etc.) but I want to know how much my AS levels alone will weaken my application.

Not particularly - the other factors are more important. They may query it slightly as History is essay based, but you could easily make up for it with your LNAT. I had a B in my 4th AS and it didn't affect me. Your grades should be fine AS wise.

What are your GCSEs like?

Oh ok that's good to hear, I haven't got my heart set on Oxford but I'd still like to know whether it's worth an application because it would definitely be my first choice.

GCSEs are 10A* 1A

Your GCSEs are excellent so it's definitely worth an application if you've got a decent PS and think you can do well in the LNAT and interview

Extenuating factors here - his cast came off on the day of one of his History exams so he couldn't write it properly and hence got a low grade.

As I'd mentioned earlier, your teacher ought to write it into her reference
How much will a B prediction in a fourth A2 affect an application for PPE? I am predicted A*A*A*B in Maths, Economics, English lit and Chemistry respectively. Thanks

Not at all really! You meet the AAA requirement and that's all that matters.

GCSEs, TSA, ps and interview matter more!

Thanks for the super quick reply. Oh good, that's relieving! Yeah I guess the other factors can make it up  Thanks!
