What do you want to know about Oxford?
Welcome to the University of Oxford forum: where prospective and current students can discuss anything about Oxford.

Re: What would you want to know about Oxford? That'd be pretty pointless given this is an Oxford thread. Not a river to be seen near Oxford so can't see your logic.(Original post by nulli tertius)
Try googling the phrases "boat race" and "varsity match" -

Re: What would you want to know about Oxford?Yes I did, but they initially paid me the same as the JCR would charge and I didn't realise my ink cost significantly more until afterwards. They now pay a higher rate but it was a big shock the first time.(Original post by The_Lonely_Goatherd)
Did you not charge your friends for use of my printer? My tute partner asked for termly donations, which I gave him. I very rarely asked him to do big print jobs for me, since I didn't want to take the piss

Re: What would you want to know about Oxford?I'd be very surprised if there wasn't some kind of arrangment, though I wouldn't anticipate it being huge or necessarily very convenient.(Original post by Dnibara)
I don't know if someone else has already asked this, but is there anywhere for international students to store their belongings during Christmas/Easter break? I would be in Teddy Hall, if it depends on which college it is -
Re: What would you want to know about Oxford? Most of the colleges have a place for international students to store a modest amount of stuff over the breaks. When you get your info in the summer it should have details, but you can certainly contact them. Based the experience of a 2nd year student I know, it's not a whole lot of space, and she had to go scrounge up boxes to store the stuff that didn't fit in the suitcases she brought. I'm thinking of getting a trunk once I get there- hopefully strong enough to be a table or even to sit on- to use.(Original post by Dnibara)

Re: What would you want to know about Oxford?Do people who choose to remain in college after first year ever feel a bit out of it? I purposely chose Magdor as it provides in-college accommodation all the way through, and I hate people, so

Re: What would you want to know about Oxford?
I'm interested in getting involved in research (especially involving "applied" maths) as an undergraduate reading maths at Oxford. The course handbook lists some bursaries intended to provide undergraduates with research experience - how common is it, and how easy is it, to be awarded these bursaries? More generally, how common is it to get research experience in maths as an undergraduate?

Re: What would you want to know about Oxford? Some students do it during the summer between their third and fourth years. There are EPSRC and Nuffield bursaries which can be applied for; these are more common on the applied side than the pure.(Original post by perpend)

Re: What would you want to know about Oxford?People generally choose to live in college as much as realistically possible. Its a lot cheaper, a lot easier and generally a lot nicer. I'd be surprised if anyone at Magdalen chose to live out unless they had a specific reason.(Original post by such_a_lady)

Re: What would you want to know about Oxford?Looking at the fine print it says it applies to a cut which isn't a special offer and 'applies for a minimum spend of £25' - whether that's before or after I don't know... if that applies to you I'd happily give you one of them(Original post by *Corinna*)

With the £25 limit it doesn't apply, unless you go really extravagant(Original post by dbmag9)
Remind me of this next time I need a haircut.
It felt like they were washing my hair with rainbows.Last edited by thurin; 23-02-2012 at 20:35. -
Re: What would you want to know about Oxford?I just meant remind me as in the place; Turl Street Barbers were very much the standard short-back-and-sides kind of place (though I may have seen AC Grayling there(Original post by thurin)
