Re: Nuffield science bursaryThe presentation is a little nerve wracking, but no more than giving a presentation to your teachers. If you're okay with talking to people you'll be fine, there weren't any big groups and it's great experience.(Original post by Anz)
I don't know how to work this, I'm kinda new to Student Room
but darwinian, what's the presentation like at the end of it all? Is it intimidating, and also did you apply for a gold crest award?
Thanks
Yes, I applied for (and got) a Gold CREST.
If you apply for it, you'll have to talk to an "assessor", and that's more stressful but really no problem. They're all quite friendly, and no one in the room will know more about your project than you do.
To get the award, you'll also have to fill in a form, but it's really simple and quite short. And then they'll send you a certificate! -
Re: Nuffield science bursaryWhere is your local uni i can help if you live in London. I did my placement at UCL(Original post by Xiomara)
Still don't have a project, local uni isn't accepting students and having no luck with anyone else! Miserable :-(

Re: Nuffield science bursaryNuffield sent a booklet out that had all the info required such as word limit etc. Mine was around 10-20 pages i can't remember maybe more. It was fine tho, you don't have to be very scientific. However it all depends on the topic as mine was a medical one so the content was hard enough so adding scientific terms would make it worse. I was given 3 examples to go by and we was told to write as if the person you were writing to had scientific knowledge of a AS student. I guess it depends on what region as the people i worked with was from another region and didn't have the resources i had and had a different quota. I was from the London detachment. Good luck!(Original post by Anz)
Ah thank you!
Probably not the last question I will ask but,
How long does the report have to be (roughly)?
I'm really scared about writing it, I don't know how formal to be or how scientific to sound..

Re: Nuffield science bursary
How long roughly does it take for the co ordinator to get back with a yes / no answer as I sent my form off today after my teacher filled in my reference.
Also are there normally many placements for comp sci or electronic engineering as most of the stuff on their website seemed to be biology / chemistry related (although I did only scan through it quickly on my phone) -
Re: Nuffield science bursary
I am a bit confused - is this open to all high school students in the UK or to only ones that go to a school that have low rates of university attenders or in areas of deprivation etc. that may be at a disadvantage?
