Seems that DMU is the best place for students to go to study Audiogy at BSc level, they are hosting the first ever student conference this summer in July and they are the home for the Education in Audiology conferences.

Did you also know they are the one of the oldest undergraduate audiology programmes?

Southampton are best for postgraduate courses in Audiology.

At DMU you are also able to work in the private sector with their degree - not som with many others like Manc and Leeds....

Hey everyone is anyone going to be studying audiology at demontfort in September?

Audiology seems to be really not popular ive only spoken to 1 person who wants to do it so far!

I applied to sunderland and accepted it as my firm and they contacted me a few weeks ago saying they'd cancelled the course because I was the only person who had applied! The course sounded dodgy anyway glad I'm going demontfort now

It is! What made me want to study Audiology was the fact that you have direct interaction with patients and the fact that you can have a large impact on people's lives. Also that technology is involved a lot, e.g using machines to diagnose someone's condition.

I can't say much about the course because I've only just started but it looks challenging but exciting!

From the handouts, course information and lectures we have had so far, it appears that there is a large amount of biology involved, also a large amount of physics, we do have to do a lot of maths and statistics as well, this is to help us with research and also general skills we will need as an Audiologist as well as specialist skills, e.g calculations involving decibels. At De Montfort University in the first year you also do a module which trains you to work as an Audiologist in a team, develop your communication skills etc.

In the second year you do more specialist modules, e.g adult aural rehabilitation. Throughout the 3 years at Uni you also need to complete 50 weeks work experience organised by the University, some Uni's do work experience at different times but at De Montfort you do 2 weeks in the first year and the rest in the last year, and that's your whole year!

If your interested look on the NHS careers website, that's where I found out more!

Hey all, how are you finding Audiology at your chosen universities? I've completed my personal statement, not sure how good it is as none of my teachers know anyone who has gone to do audiology *sadface*. Also, how far do they look at your predicted grades? I've got bbc, even though I called my english paper back and when my teacher marked it, she thought it was worth atleast a B. I'll be retaking that and hopefully bumping it up but sixth form cant change my predicted grade. Bit waffffley here, sorry! any advice/tips/spoilers mucho appreciated too!
