Yeah price was a main factor, and free ample parking too as I am bringing my car. The saving in accomodation (compared to next cheapest one) allows me to afford my car insurance so was a no brainer really. Plus agreed I don't mind being a bit further out for nicer accomodation. I hope I get a nice big room like the one in the virtual tour!
I'm getting a bike haha I'll be the crazy one wearing dresses and the like whilst trying to ride a bike haha I don't actually own any clothes suitable for riding a bike in the rain or anything... but it'll be fine

It is a lot cheaper though...

Awesome Why did you two choose St Mary's can I ask? Doesn't seem to be popular as a first choice that's all. I chose it because for the price, it seem's really good. I don't really mind being a bit further out, for nicer accommodation and more money!
Pretty much what has already been said. I made it my first choice because, if I am going to be living away from home for the first time I'd like somewhere I'm happy with staying. The rooms seem nice and the accommodation in general at St Mary's seems pretty respectable. Also, I'd quite like to have my car with me. Being a bit out of the centre isn't a concern when there are buses, plus cycle storage facilities...plus a taxi after a night out won't be that much. Then there is the cost factor. Being the cheapest and seeming to be one of the nicest, St Mary's seems the best bang for your buck in my opinion!

Went for a walk round St Mary's today...didn't manage to get in anywhere which was a shame, but what I saw I was fairly impressed. Nicer surroundings than I was expecting. The only down side was the distance to the university but I suppose I can't have it all!

In all seriousness it was within cycling distance that I'd be happy to do on a daily basis. Have any of you guys been inside and had a look round?

Its newly refurbished so its nice indoors as well. In terms of value for money its the best accommodation. However, it is quite far out away from the university and away from town, and that's its main (only?) draw back. If you don't mind a long walk, or a cycle/bus journey to get into uni every morning, and a taxi journey to get to and from town on a night out then go for it.

For me personally, the advantages of a living a five minute walk from university and a ten minute walk from town far outweighed having refurbished interiors. St.Mary's was going to be my original choice, but I am very glad I went for Marris instead.

No not been to have a look around as I only been up to newcastle once for the interview (I live too far away!) Glad you think it was in a nice area though. I don't mind a cycle, hopefully gonna pick up a cheap second hand bike when I am up there.

Same - I have two who want to come up in Fresher's!!! Hope it isn't too strict (i.e. easy to hide from the staff?)
Ex Ricky Roader, everyone does it and its pathetically easy to, my mates have even told security guards that they are staying overnight and not at newcastle uni and they don't care

Considering I walk home from college every day, which is a 40 minute walk, I'm happy walking to Uni, so St Mary's seemed like a bargain and a great choice for me if I think about the distance as the same distance from my house to college

    I've put St Mary's down too, and I think it's likely I will get St Mary's assuming I don't get into Central-Link.

I just googled mapped it and it says it is 2 miles (well 2.5 miles to the law school ) walking distance, any Newcastle students confirm this? As 2 miles isn't a lot at all. Granted I wouldn't want to walk 2 miles on a night out while drunk (unless with other people) but that is doable to and from university during the cooler months. I think a Newcastle winter would require a bus though..

Hey, I've been at St Mary's this year and honestly, it's been the best year of my life! You'll have an amazing time and if you ask me, you made the best choice! The accommodation is so nice, the refurbished flats are amazing, huge kitchens! I was in an unrefurbished flat this year and it was still fine, alot bigger than some of the refurbished! I think theyre planning to have all the flats refurbished by the time you guys arrive anyway! All the rooms are really decent sizes, I dont know anyone who had a small room! Your only sharing showers (which are huge) with like 3 people which is amazing compared to other accommodation! I was in a flat of 5 and we had 2 fridges, 2 showers, 2 toilets and way more than a cupboard each. Trust me so much better than all my friends accommodation at Newcastle and other Unis and everyone is VERY jealous and surprised when I tell them the price.
The walk is 25 minutes and its a pretty nice walk, seriously nothing to worry about! Theres loads of buses into town and theres the free bus that the uni provides so the distance is literally nothing to worry about! I got a bus pass at the start of the year and trust me, it was a waste of money! Most of the time I either walked or got the free bus.
Anyway, sorry about the essay! But basically you'll have an amaaazing time at St Mary's if you get it! Everyone I know has had a brilliant year regardless of accommodation! Newcastle is an amazing city and university!
If youve got any questions feel free to message me or whatever

Just had my offer too, I'm flat 13 room 2! I would love to see a layout of building so I know whereabouts I am. Just reading T&C's and it says no overnight visitors are allowed. I wonder how strict this rule is as I have friends that would occasionally like to pop up and see me.
Heyy, Im guessing you mean st marys, if you dont, ignore this haha!!
I was in flat 14 this year but spent all my time in 13! Its a really really nice flat and an alright room! Not tiny, not massive! With regards to people staying over, theyre not strict at all! I had loads of friends up to stay and my friends boy friend practically lived with her haha. They never ever check!

    Hi Charlotte

Great to hear from you! Which floor is it on? Newly refurb kitchen or not? All meaningless irrelevant information as I've already accepted, but would be great to find out as much as you know!

    Cheers
