hi, does anyone have any idea about the way they prioritise?
I want to put ensuite as a second preference, but I'm worried that if I don't get any of my three choices for washbasin that it'll be pointless having an ensuite as second preference as it'll probably be oversubscribed. anyone got any ideas on this?

by the way, currently my choices for ensuite are victoria hall, central link, castle court,
and non-ensuite - marris house, windsor terrace, st mary's

I get the impression the the initial priorities of location facilities and cost matter the most- after that they look at where you've applied and try and place you at one but mostly they ask to get an impression of the places that you are interested in so they can place you at one similar if they can't place you at one of your preferences.

I don't think st mary's is that oversubscribed as a people end up there who don't want to be and I heard this year some people got central link who hadn't even put it on their form so I think you have a fair bet of getting at least one.

I'm not an expert though so maybe it would be worth a shot emailing the accommodation office?? good luck

Hey guys...i've put Newcastle as my firm but im not sure which accommodation is best for socialisation as well as being clean and new?
    I had these in mind
    Victoria hall
    Castle court
    Windsor Terrace...
Can anyone tell me a bit about them... someone told me that one of the castle accommodations is gender based on each floor, is that true?

I'm still waiting for an offer, but Newcastle is my first choice. I don't like the look of Ricky Rd and am probably going to apply for Castle Court or Marris House if I get in. I think they are a happy medium between being 'in the thick of it' and somewhere that is sociable but a pleasant place to live. Plus, they're both only a walk away from the Med Sch!

Need help choosing accommodation! Any advice would be much appreciated
Which one most closely fulfills all this criteria:

    Ensuite
    Self-Catered
Not ridiculously loud but not awfully quiet - so just right to socialise
Close to the campus (med school)
Also bus ride away from supermarkets etc

    Thank you!

    Castle Court, Victoria Halls ?

You really need to have a look at the website to see what you like. You can't just take it from TSR...

Yeah it's okay now! I posted when I saw how many accommodations there were but afterwards I realised that more than half of them are either for post-grads or don't have ensuites. The two that you've mentioned are two of the ones that met all my criteria haha!

I applied to both myself, Victoria being my first choice.

What is making it hard to decide between the 2? They are 'IMO' completely different with different advantages to each place. It depends what you want from the halls you will be staying in.

    Last Thursday I applied for:

    1. Windsor Terrace (self-catered, washbasin)
    2. Marris House (self-catered, washbasin)
    3. Richardson Road (self-catered, no washbasin)

Have I got any chance of actually getting what I want, I hear Windsor and Marris are really over-subsribed

Applying this early, I would say that you will get your 1st choice, although it is quite popular.

Depends on what you want really, nearly everyone I've talked to about Richardson Road said that if they had the chance theyd go there again, from what I've heard its a experience unmatched by other accomodation just because of the party atmosphere

what exactly are you looking for in accomodation?

I'm applying self-catered ensuite and stuck between which to put first.

Originally I was going for -
    Castle Court
    Bowsden Court
    Windsor Terrace

But now thinking CC, WT, BC

Any opinions on any of those? I want somewhere that I can go out and socialise but still be able to sleep (so not Ricky Road aha)

Yeah, they look really nice. I've applied for Central-link, I didn't apply for Victoria Halls as I've heard that it's really quiet and people get fined for ridiculous things.
I stayed in Victoria Halls in first year. It is pretty quiet- but I found that was kinda useful at exam times. I knew loads of people on my degree (which granted, is quite hard) that found it impossible to do anything living in Ricky Road.

As for ridiculous fines. I think the only ridiculous one was for having windows open too far (which was cause they had someone fall out of one once)- but then when it got really hot they revoked it for a while. Um... they also fine people for having fire doors propped open (but we always did and no one ever fined us) and for leaving bin bags in the flat (which would just smell anyway- so ick, don't do it).

They told us they'd fine us for anything damaged/missing or left behind when we left- but they didn't. They did fine us for repairs when my flat mate set fire to stuff- but that was fair enough and we made them pay it alone. Ricky road incurs a lot more damage repair costs than Victoria Halls does.

The facilities are good- having a TV etc and a proper kitchen/living room is nice. Also the ensuite is a bonus.

I guess you get all that with that new central link place... but that didn't exist when I started- and I've only just heard of it from this thread :P

    Just applied for my accommodation..

First choice = no wash basin & self catered - ricky road

Second choice - wash basin & self catered - St. mary's college, windsor terrace, castle leazes

Interesting to see if many medics/dentists have stayed in ricky road if the rumours of how loud it is even around exam time are true
