    Social life in Exeter?
    Hi everyone,

I have an offer for English Lit AAB and I like the course so I'm pretty pleased. Only thing that has got me hesitant, is that recently I had an interview for Cambridge & staying there overnight made me question if I could really deal with living somewhere SO quiet? I'm not too familiar with Exeter as a place and being that I am from London I'm used to lots of people etc. It would be really helpful if anyone could answer my questions thankkkss

Is it easy to get to neighboring areas? & is this expensive or not? are the places it's near to got much going on?

what is it like in terms of shopping?

what are the clubs/bars like? Also, what is the music scene like? I like RnB, DnB, Hip hop, chart stuff etc etc think drake rihanna beyonce the weeknd is there going to be stuff that will cater to my tastes?

is it diverse in regards to people? the way people dress/ race etc etc. everyone keeps going on about 'rahs' but I go to a somewhat middle class college and am not middle class myself but it doesn't actually bother me.

Do people ever travel to London ? I know its a trek but occasionally?

I know this is a long post but any pointers will do. thanks everyone

Depends which neighbouring areas you want to get to. Use Google Maps, National Rail website, Transport Direct, to figure this out.

We have all the high street chain stores (at least, those that are still in business!) plus the usual array of independent shops of various sorts. It's a standard clone-town.

There are not many clubs but if that's your music taste you'll be well catered for. You can also turn up Heart FM loud.

There are posh people everywhere you go and especially if you want to go to a reasonably prestigious university. It's not especially 'diverse' in the sense of black and/or Muslim students but there are lots of Chinese students. This is not always seen as 'diverse'.

How do people dress? In a pretty standard way.

As for 'rahs'. There are posh people here. If you don't like people from that background you won't hang out with them.

Yes of course. Devon is not the Yukon. It is a perfectly achievable daytrip, though the last train back is to early to see a show in the evening or wotnot.

    Hope this helps!

Haha Thanks this was helpful. People are leading me to believe Exeter is full of nothing & sheep only because it seems so far away from me! if theres not a lot of clubs/bars what do people tend to do in terms of nightlife? Sorry if it seems like an obvious question. taaa

Well there is a field of cows just off campus, I pass them every week on the way to church!

Nightlife-wise, there's probably about 5-6 "club" clubs, but then there's plenty more places to go during an evening, 44 Below serve cocktails in teapots which is rather cool. Plus there's loads of restaurants, pubs, societies etc. so there's always plenty of things to do around here.

Well the vast majority of students aren't Chinese. And I don't know how you identify 'rahs' but most Exeter students are fairly ordinary middle class folk.

So the answer to your question is "all the time".
