Full Moon Party, Thailand
Has anyone been to this? Looks insane on the videos.

It does stand for everything I hate about society, but it looks a right laugh.Last edited by Un Libertine; 07-01-2012 at 16:01. -
Re: Full Moon Party, Thailand
The music is meh and its just like a night out except you drink out of buckets, dance on a stage on a beach and might take a wonder up mushroom mountain to see what it sells...
Go for the experience and to see all the idiots getting a full blown tattoo whilst pissed up, absolutely priceless!!! -

Hasn't there been a spate of stabbings by locals who don't like British people impinging on their full moon party? And as such the Home Office recommends you don't go?
If I do go travelling, I'm definitely going to it though
"Western tourists have been victims of vicious unprovoked attacks by gangs in Koh Phangan. These attacks are particularly common around the time of the Full Moon parties and generally occur late at night near bars in Haad Rin. Exercise caution when walking in this area at any time, especially after dark."
"There have been incidents where tourists have had their drinks drugged in both tourist areas and red light districts. Be careful about taking drinks from strangers and at clubs and parties, particularly in the Koh Samui area and, at the Full Moon party on Phangan Island, where date rapes have been reported. Some British nationals have suffered severe psychiatric problems because of drug use, resulting in some suicides."
"There have been some passenger boat sinkings, usually due to overloading and/or poor maintenance. During the Full Moon party speedboats to and from Koh Pha Ngan are often overloaded. Exercise care at all times when travelling by passenger ferry or speedboat and avoid travel on vessels that are clearly overloaded or in poor condition. Ensure that life jackets are available."
Just took the bits that refer to the Full Moon parties. So not recommending that you don't go, just that you're careful. It does look a bit worrying though!
But friends have been and have come back raving about it. -
Re: Full Moon Party, ThailandPah, I live in Glasgow. I'd be fine(Original post by whooshpaddy)

I was sure there was a specific warning, but obviously not. Ever since I saw this I've been thinking about it and really want to go now
it's ok though, I;m definitely winning the lottery next week.

Re: Full Moon Party, ThailandHaha I was sat down opposite a tattoo parlour, feeling sad about losing my camera, when my friend said to me "It could have been worse, you could have got one of those!" There was a photo of a guy with a tattoo of the McDonalds sign!(Original post by redrose_ftw)

Re: Full Moon Party, ThailandThat would be Zante, Magaluf, Malia etc. The Full moon party has a more friendly feel to it, other than the rape and stabbings obviously. I've just got back from Koh Phangan and the only time it gets a bit too crazy is on the full moon, the other nights are great fun!(Original post by .Scout.)
Honestly, that looks like my idea of hell. It's like the whole awful 'brits abroad' x 1000.
Regarding the overloading of passenger boats, i had a pretty scary experience, our ferry from Koh Phangan - Koh Tao. The company Songserm (run by the mafia as pretty much all the services on the islands are, esp koh Tao) undercut the other ferry companies by about 100 baht (£2) and so we thought we would save a few quid by taking that ferry, their reason for it being cheaper is because it's slower. We found out that this was only one of the reasons: It turned out that there were more than 2 people to each seat, with even fewer life jackets than seats and that it has never passed the ship equivalent of an MOT - the mafia just pay off the inspectors to give it a pass.(Original post by whooshpaddy)

The result was that, in pretty windy weather, we came very close to capsizing numerous times and too many people being sick to count - one idiot threw up from the middle of the boat and it ended up in my face and the girl's next to me too! All in all a pretty horrendous journey and definitely not worth the £2 we saved. -
Re: Full Moon Party, ThailandScary. When I was on it they made any extra people go on the top deck which is just the most ridiculous idea ever. If you're going to overfill the boat, you put the majority of the mass as close to sea level as possible to reduce the risk of capsizing it.(Original post by Oxtooner)
