Re: The 2012 STEP Prep Thread!I know what you mean, I've got a friend who has an offer from Oxford to study history and politics, just needs 3 A's , not even one A*! (not A*factorial(Original post by fruktas)
Also, I am sorry if this sounds arrogant, but how the hell do people not meet their Cambridge offers when their offer is A levels only!? If I was lucky enough to have my offer restricted to A levels, I would be in without a doubt!

Re: The 2012 STEP Prep Thread!
well guys last night, i was thinking that although if we guys dont do good in step, we could miss our maths offers but that shouldnt let us down. we cant think about what were going to lose, instead think about what were going to gain. we arent going to lose anything but we could gain everything. so keeping that in mind, i hope everyone enters the exam room!

Re: The 2012 STEP Prep Thread!
Pretty sure i got a 2 in STEP 2, but i still think i might have a chance for a 1 on this one. You never know, they might let me in.
I'm not too fussed, there's not much I can do really. Anyway, good luck everyone else! (or on the other hand, perhaps it would be better if you all sucked, then the grade boundaries might be nicer, but that's not a nice thing to say!)

Re: The 2012 STEP Prep Thread!
well I mite as well post how I did in step II and III as exams are officially over!!!!
STEP II full for Q1,3,5,6,8,9..started 11- thought this paper played on my strengths. My start was horrendous...I differentiated 1 to be 1!!!!! After that momentary lapse I seemed to go in devilish mode
I realised another mistake in adding for the coefficients but managed to rectify that when writing my solutions properly from scrap. There were certainly elements in each question which have been seen in previous step questions before I felt- I could literally quote the question.
STEP III full for Q3,6,8- 3 other bits.....I would say my fragments weren't that good. although when I went to Q1 at the end.....i clocked that n=1 and almost did half of it when time ran out
...also I agree question 1 missed something which is now being discussed in the III thread. I thought this paper was wierd...no integrals or proof via induction! hyperbolics, polars, geometry etc. Most people i know found it harder. I personally found it less suited to me than 2010, 2011 III.
I reckon an S in II and hopefully a 1 in III
this thread has been really useful and thanks to those that helped
TIME TO CHILLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!

There were hidden hyperbolics in the last part of the rational point question. I hope you get the grade you need and with luck I'll see you October(Original post by Rahul.S)

Re: The 2012 STEP Prep Thread!yh I mean like an entire hyperbolic questions rather than just a part(Original post by TheMagicMan)

but yh hopefully Ive done enough in both papers
Im sure your performances wont go unnoticed....im sure the examiner report will talk about a candidate who literally tore through the pure sections
likewise hope to meet in October

Re: The 2012 STEP Prep Thread!
I got to the end of 8,3 and 2. I couldn't do part ii of 4, would like to see how that was done.. 6 I ran out of time on, got to the very last equation was just about to sketch the graph.. 7 I got right to the end but couldn't quite show iii). If there was a mistake printing question 1 that is very annoying, when I didn't understand where the dz/dx thing was coming from I just skipped past, but it looks like it might have been a nice question.
Tbh, I thought it was harder than 2011, but much easier than most step IIIs. What does everyone think the grade boundaries will be for a 1 or an S? -
Re: The 2012 STEP Prep Thread!Partial fractions and considering ln(1 - 1/2).(Original post by deejayy)

I think it'll be around average personally. 60 for a 1, 80 for an S.Tbh, I thought it was harder than 2011, but much easier than most step IIIs. What does everyone think the grade boundaries will be for a 1 or an S? -
Re: The 2012 STEP Prep Thread!oh damn I did partial fractions but couldnt see where to go from there.(Original post by Farhan.Hanif93)
Partial fractions and considering ln(1 - 1/2).

Re: The 2012 STEP Prep Thread!I did the last part without using hyperbolics and got the same answer for the last part as far as I remember. It did involve what amounted to a bit of 'guessing' but it wasn't so much guessing, there were only a few possible options the way I did it and I chose one that I 'thought' could work and checked it(Original post by TheMagicMan)
