Maastricht Applicants 2012?
Discussion for those studying or looking to study in the Netherlands.

Re: Maastricht Applicants 2012?Heya I am Dutch, it is quite a hard language, but if u need any help after the 18th of May I would be willing to do so.(Original post by whooshpaddy)
I have had a message through Studielink saying that my grades are acceptable and now I just have to finish my application ASAP.
Is anyone else learning dutch?
If so, I wouldn't mind a "study buddy", I'm only alphabet and basic phrases "in" so far! - Could do this on skype? -
Re: Maastricht Applicants 2012?Heya I am Dutch myself, and Holland processes things way later than UK uni's, whilst in the UK they make a decision on ur predictions, in Holland they look at what you have gotten, this is why the application deadline is way later. and also once you have got ur results you know u can apply.(Original post by Kyle Butler)
That's strange, I sent them an email asking specifically whether I will definitely be able to register for the programme if I fulfill all the requirements. The email I got back was:
If you send us the required documents, like your a certified copy of your diploma etc, then you are eligible to enroll.
Hopefully we have informed you sufficiently,
Again they just HAD TO use the word "eligible" which is extremely unclear. I told them specifically that I wanted to begin looking for my accommodation and I need to know for sure whether I'm accepted or not (conditionally). I could email them again, but I have no idea how could I form my question any clearer. So I'll just keep on assuming that I'm admitted.
The annoying part is is that often they don't recognize your level or grades you have received, they only check what level you are doing and how that relates to the dutch level of studies. So you need gymnasium/vwo level which is the highest level of study in holland.
I hope this clears it up a bit -

Hi it seems so that Maastricht, at least for the EU Law in English, does give out "conditional" offers. On the website it says:
"Provided that you take the exam before 1 September, you will be conditionally admitted to your study programme. This conditional admission will be transformed into a definitive admission once we receive the proof that you have passed the exam."
For other courses, such as Economics, it is different and I guess there is some sort of a selection procedure which is described also on their website. For Law however it seems like you just get conditionally admitted (condition in my case being to obtain the IB diploma) and once you do you can register for the course. -
Re: Maastricht Applicants 2012?Oh well thats good then.(Original post by Kyle Butler)

Re: Maastricht Applicants 2012?I am in the exact same postition!(Original post by sannevkf)
I was just wondering if any current Maastricht students could provide me information on the housing situation? Considering that there is no campus, is it not ever difficult to find a room, and if you find one, does it not sometimes get lonely by yourself? -
Re: Maastricht Applicants 2012?you can share a house with others, this is what I'm starting to look for now(Original post by sannevkf)

Re: Maastricht Applicants 2012?When I visited I was told to start looking now because (good) rooms tend to go quite quickly. There are quite a few places with loads of rooms and most have social areas, especially the ones which are communal. I have the same concerns about being lonely though because in the UK most of my friends have made really good friends with people in their halls or student flats. I hope that it is the same but, being independent, I guess you could end up sharing a house with anyone. Personally I am looking at rooms as opposed to studios, purely for the fact that I think it would be more social because you would socialise in the communal room(s), but I may be wrong.(Original post by sannevkf)

Has anyone already sorted accomodation and if so, what?

Re: Maastricht Applicants 2012?
Well I was late with my application to UCM, so I still have to have my interview. In any case I have set my heart on Maastricht no matter what! I have not started looking for rooms yet, but do agree that you really need to look in advance. I do not think that Maastricht should be too difficult though, I tried to find a room in Amsterdam last year and that was a nightmare. I would say it is worth making a group of potential international students, because it is then possible to look for accommodation together.
What course have you applied to Catherine? -
Maastricht applicants 2012 :)
Hi,
I have applied for European Law starting in september. I received this email:
Based on the academic admission criteria and the information you have provided, we have decided that you are eligible to
the programme BA ELS English language track for the academic year 2012-13 on the condition that you meet all possible
additional requirements before the start of your programme.
This part confused me
on the condition that you meet all possible
additional requirements before the start of your programme.
So I emailed them and talked to someone from UM on scype.
The person I scyped with said that I need to wait for further information from student service.
The reply on mail said something else. This means that you have to send a certified copy of your diploma, and you will be eligible for the programme.
Did anyone else receive this email and what did you do
?

Re: Maastricht applicants 2012 :)I did receive it as well and am still waiting as it basically just means that you've got some paperwork left to do. Don't worry , as long as you get your grades you will be in.(Original post by chrizzy92)

Re: Maastricht Applicants 2012?
I received this 3 weeks ago:
Congratulations, we are already able to tell you that you belong to the top applicants of the International Business programme at SBE! This means that you will be offered a place in the International Business programme starting September 2012 on the condition that you fulfill all requirements for registration at DUO and the Maastricht University Student Services Centre. You will receive a message indicating your final ranking number around 15 June, and DUO will start sending out formal certificates of placement around 15 July. Please make sure that you have submitted your diploma and the other required documents before then.
and I haven't hear anything from Student Services or UM since then. does anyone know what they mean by 'registration requirements?' -

Because I have already uploaded my diploma, I think I got a guaranteed place at Maastricht university. I asked them what these requirements for registration at DUO and MUSSC exactly mean. -
Re: Maastricht Applicants 2012?I got the same exact email but I didn't upload my diploma because I'm doing my exams this summer.. please tell me what the requirements are because I asked and I got an irrelevant answer(Original post by vazee)

I've asked about the requirements, and this is what they replied back;
Dear Christina,
This means that if you meet all the criteria (upload the right documents and send us a certified copy of your diploma via regular mail), you are eligible to the programme BA ELS English language track.
Hopefully we have informed you sufficiently,
Yours Sincerely,

I did not received an answer to this question about requirements and I think I will get it just in the next week. I tried to find out something about that surfing the internet yesterday. In my view, they require new students to prove their registration in the Netherlands before 15th of September, send all documents such as copy of passport , diploma, etc. But I am not sure. Should wait for exact answer. -
