Dear me, pretty bad lineup. Reading has truly gone downhill during the years in terms of the rubbish, 15-17 year old indie crowd, and it looks like that's who it's catering for now. I mean there's no one really that special playing. The Foos and Cure are good, but not really that 'wow'. ATDI is a nice spot. Saturday looks like the worst day in existence. Kasabian headlining?? Really? And look at the rest of that indie bore!!

    Incredibly bland.

Where did you hear this. I have heard rumours about them playing, but surely they wouldn't replace paramore, as good as it would be.
Well there's three Special Guests, and from reading the efest forum it seems that TD are going to be announced after Download Festival... not sure why? But also after reading it I don't think they'll be subbing.

Wonder if Jack White will be another Special Guest...

A month or so till another announcement I think, then there's pretty much constant announcements throughout the summer. Bear in mind less than half the full line up has been announced so far.

Thanks for the info. Though I doubt many Paramore or Tenacious D fans are hardcore Cure fans, it would have been more enjoyable to have TD on before, as a bit of light entertainment before what will be the highlight of the weekend. The only real two problems I have with the lineup are the clash between Cure and the Maccabees. I have seen the Maccabees before but would have liked to have seen them again. Also how can the Cribs be subbing on the NME stage rather than the main stage. They are much more suited to it than Florence, and it would be a great atmosphere grower before Kasabian. At least Crystal Castles are main stage, should be a great atmosphere.

Just saw on the Reading Forum that the three Special Guests are apparently main stage Friday, and then NME tent on Saturday and Sunday - for Reading that is. Seen rumours of Pixies subbing the Cure. That would make putting up with all that rubbish pop-punk worth it.

I'm not too fussed about Jack White, never got particularly into White Stripes, or any of his other side projects.

Just have to hope Los Campesinos! get announced soon, then I can really start getting excited.

Ye, thinking about it I'd rather Paramore sub so that I can go and see Foster The People before The Cure. Agreed, I would have thought Florence would have better suited for The Cure and The Cribs better suited for Kasabian, and especially with their new album out in May. I'll be honest though, I'm worried about Crystal Castles, can't imagine them doing a set in the middle of the day, to me they're all dark and mysterious... might work out well though who knows.

Tame Impala, Caribou, The Pixies (Pushing it...) and White Lies would top it off for me.

Other than Justice and a slight interest, almost a novel interest, in seeing The Shins nothing draws me in. Five years would have been pushing it I suppose and it has meant that I've already seen most of the bands that are playing. Though, last year I thought was brilliant. The Strokes for the first time was incredible, Muse playing OOS straight-through and The Horrors headlining FR were highlights. Saw The Cure at Bestival and wasn't blown away (clearly a great band who will appeal to many) and equally I can see how loads of 15/16/17yr old kids will want to see Kasabian and the FF is quite a draw for some.

That said the Dance Tent looks abysmal and there's a tonne of crap spread throughout most of the stages.

I guess you are right about Crystal Castles, as a tent at night seems much more like them, as the atmosphere is a big part of their show. I'm not too fussed about Foster the People, but I guess it would be better than Paramore. Also, I get that they have had a fairly successful year, but the Vaccines on the main stage seems like too big a leap. Not only as I don't believe they are ready for it, but their shows have looked pretty mild when I have seen them. They just don't seem to have the presence, which is massively needed outdoors. This is sort of similar to Enter Shikari as well (except their new album is rubbish). They just don't seem to have the sort of show that will excel when not in a tent.

Also, I am hoping for Foals to appear. They are recording, or have finished, their third album, so an august based release could be possible, meaning the later festivals could be on.

Crystal Castles outside would be ****. Last year at night in the tent with all the lights was incredible, one (if not the) best moment of the festival for me.

I've never understood the whole 'hype' around The Vaccines, their musics okay but it's not an act I'll be rushing to go and see. Switching the Vaccines with the Courteeners would be better in my opinion. However, there will still be a few bands to add to the main stage so it might change the outlook slightly.

I didn't even know Fouls were recording a new album! Maybe they might be one of these 'special guests' if their albums ready in time.

Finally, someone who doesn't get the Vaccines. I thought I was alone in thinking they were boring and, well, generally not very good. But I guess they appeal to the post GCSE, chino-wearing mobs that invade Reading nowadays. At least that sort of crowd means I will be able to enjoy the Cure, most of them probably don't know who they are.

Not even a fan of Enter Shikari but they caused mayhem last year on the main stage:

Completely agree with you on the Vaccines. I saw them support Arctic Monkeys back in November and they were a really disappointing live act. All their songs sound pretty much the same.
And yeah I was hoping for Foals too! (And Arctic Monkeys but I knew that would have been a long shot) Also was really convinced Bloc Party were gonna play.
I'm also hoping Howler appear on the line up soon, their album is so so good.

The Farro brother's left  But they never spilt up. Not heard 'Monsters' by them?
Sorry no, they're not really my cup of tea. So basically half the band left?

I'm a big fan of the vaccines and have seen them 3 times and they have got beeter each time but they no way deserve to be 3rd! However i've heard that Tenacious D are to be announced to play above them after download which will greatly improve saturday's main stage but Shikari playing below them doesn't make sense at all.

This is exactly correct. Though I don't care that much for Arctic Monkeys, or Bloc Party, so not too fussed that neither are playing.

I can't wait until the rest of the NME stage gets announced. I want people like tUnE-yArDs, St. Vincent and Real Estate announced, even if they are only for the early morning sets.

Nooo that can't be right. Tribes will be announced later on but I wouldn't consider them big or special enough to be considered "secret"...

Soundgarden headlining, definitely over Kasabian. They were massive in the 90s, and sold very well over here too. Also maybe Korn playing.
