The standard grade was a lot easier than I was expecting it to be! Chuffed.

I think you'll find that was because you knew more than you thought rather than us making the exam easier. Fingers crossed you're right!

    Hi Sam

Basically I wanted to check something with my advanced higher english creative writing folio.

In one of my pieces I've used a a few swear words but they're used effectivly and aren't random. Is this alright or should I take them out ?

    Thanks

Hope the Gaelic and the Graphics went okay today. Tomorrow it's English for the Int 1 and 2s. Good luck!

Hi, to be honest I have no idea on that. I would certainly run it by your teacher. While I would like to think we would embrace swearies as an valid part of the language when used effectively, do you really want to take the chance?

Sorry I can't be more helpful.

Thanks, my teacher thinks I can get away with them but I'll change them to be safe

It's a tricky one, but in this case I'd follow your teachers advice - it's an opportunity for you to use some imaginative vocab.

    Sam, out of interest....

Why on earth do exam papers ask for your seat number?

I was just wondering whether or not the SQA have any other reasons for banding your grades other than for appeals? I wish the SQA would publish the bands on your certificate to distinguish A2 and A1 candidates.

English and C&D okay? Good. Now, how's about a bit of Drama and Tech Studies and Graphic Comms and Media Studies to finish the week?

I think it should be an opt-in system on MySQA, where you can get your bands included in the email and text that gets sent. Many people (myself included) don't want to see our bands.

We never include Bands with the results and have no plans to do so. All the grading info that us useful to anyone is covered by the ABC system, with the exception of a very few Universities.

Hello Sam, can you find out the percentage you got for your higher?
Also, I know Oxbridge look at banding but do they also look at the percentage you got for your highers?

    Thank you.

As far as I'm aware, Oxford do not look at your banding. They might set you an offer dependent on AH bands, I don't know - but I don't think they ask during the admissions process. Cambridge ask for your bands on an additional application form, and definitely give out offers dependent on bands. Neither ask for percentages.

Cambridge looks at bands but not percentages, and I know people who've had A1AA offers from them. Oxford doesn't look at all, and I'm pretty sure no-one gets offers with bands. However, other unis like Imperial, UCL and Durham ask for specific bands sometimes (because they don't bother trying to understand the Scottish system and think that an A1 is like an English A*). :colonhash:

And if you ask your teachers they can tell you your percentage. I've never felt happier for knowing, though.
