Have any history students bought any of the core texts for the 'Learning History' module yet? It recommend buying one or two, so I was just wondering if anyone has any opinions on which they'd personally recommend? At the minute I'm thinking 'In Defence of History' and 'Studying History', but that's mainly because they're cheapest on Amazon!

As a second year Nottingham History student, I learned the hard way which books to buy/not buy.

DO NOT buy the recommended text for Early Modern (Weisner-Hanks). It's awful, and you will only use it perhaps once or twice. I, and most people on my course, found it a total waste of money. The same goes for the Oxford Medieval History book too, which I bought but never used and still got a First in that module.

Please, please, please don't rush out and buy all of the books they 'recommend'. Just use the library, and you'll save yourself the hassle of selling unused books back at the end of the year and money in the meantime!
