Re: Official Nottingham 2012 Firmers!!The art room is usually quite empty during lunch or break time but once coursework is due it is always full in my school, the amount of people and work that is there is unbelievable, most people stay until 7 in the school.(Original post by QuirkyDoDo)
Oh yeah I did, that was te time I was referring to when I said I spent pretty much every lunchtime there. Haha, I get what you mean, although weirdly enough, I always found the art rooms very relaxing, in 6th form anyway. -

Re: Official Nottingham 2012 Firmers!!Oh wow, that's dedication, I know some people who, around exam times, stayed until that late, there was one girl in particular who would stay until literally like 10pm at night at times, she was like on first name terms with the caretaker lol(Original post by ViixKey)

Lol thats close. It is dedication when its exam times before that people are gone by 4. 10pm woah my school would never close at that time i almost got locked in the school twice at 6pm, well technically speaking i did get locked lol lucky a teacher was walking by and saw us (there were 3 of us) and open the door. I was only on tuesdat during exam time that my school closes at 7. So if your not out by 6 youll probably be locked in lol.(Original post by QuirkyDoDo)

Re: Official Nottingham 2012 Firmers!!Haha I know right. Oh yeahh, people leaving some things til the last minute im guessing. Lol yeah it well it was doen to the caretaker to open places, which he did for the art department as people often stayed late, the school gates were pretty much always open so you could walk in whenever. Oh gosh lol that was a lucky escape(Original post by ViixKey)

Broadgate is huge (I think) so I'm sure you'll be fine! I'm not even in halls - no idea how I'm gonna get to know people(Original post by ProspectiveNotts)
Anyone staying at Broadgate Park? Slightly worried that I'm not going to have as much a chance to socialise in self catered accommodation. Excited to join the societies though!
societies probably the best call! What do you want to join?

I want to try new sports that I've previously been too lazy to try
I found a societies for Yoga, Badminton and Fencing and they all seem pretty reasonably priced which is great! I saw on the SU website that they have a Pool and Snooker Society which is £5 for the year! Cheaper than what I pay now to play at my local
I've got a bad feeling though that I'm going to sign up to all these societies in Fresher's Week and then waste all my money by never using the facilities
-
Sounds like a plan! Well they usually have taster sessions and such like so you sign up on the email list and go along for a few socials/have a go at the sport to see if it's for you and then pay the membership fee if you want to join - that way you avoid spending loads to do stuff you aren't gonna do much(Original post by ProspectiveNotts)

Re: Official Nottingham 2012 Firmers!!Yeah that's true, I had a look at that. Like for the Yoga Society, they had a one off session for £1 which I thought was brilliant, and they have sessions everyday so it's easy to find a day and time that will suit you. I'm actually not that much of a sporty person, but I want to try new things out(Original post by hjradley1)

How about you? What societies were you thinking of signing up for? -
Yeah that's really good! Well freshens week is partly for trying out new stuff! Best way to get into things you haven't tried before I think! Psychology society, horse riding (plus horseball if I enjoy the tasters) and swimming I think! Wish I could do other sport but I have a fairly knackered knee(Original post by ProspectiveNotts)

I wanted to go for the swimming one too because I think its pathetic that I'm 18 and still can't swim! But I think I'll ease myself into this new found sporting enthusiasm
-
Some first years on the Facebook page for Nottingham firmers has warned us not to join too many because there's no point as you won't be able to get properly involved in lots, so I think 3 is enough for me!(Original post by ProspectiveNotts)

It's not pathetic! Swimming is great though, good exercise and I find it quite fun - and it's never too late to learn

Re: Official Nottingham 2012 Firmers!!Yeah that's a good point. I was wondering if we'd get some sort of lecture timetable on Fresher's so that we know when we'd be available to do other things? And when would the latest lectures be?(Original post by hjradley1)
