The Student Room Group

Persevere, and you'll get there :)

Just gone back and found my old posts in the 'learner driver' threads. I passed 8th time, and was pretty close to quitting altogether. Spent an absolute tonne, but glad I didn't quit as I finally managed to do it. Just thought I'd make this thread for anyone thinking of quitting if they're on like their 4th or 5th go or something

Test #1
http://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/showpost.php?p=13409399&postcount=2338
10 minors

Test #2
http://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/showpost.php?p=13996010&postcount=2437
I remember this one so clearly, the examiner told me he was going to pass me if I hadn't made the zebra crossing mistake :moon:
8 minors

Test #3
http://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/showpost.php?p=14758687&postcount=2546
Couldn't find any actual posts. This was after test #3 but before test #4 Failed on lane discipline, wrong lane during a big roundabout, ended up taking the wrong exit. Though I'd missed an exit in my counting, and so I thought I was aiming for the right exit.
5 minors

Test #4
http://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/showpost.php?p=14779620&postcount=2550
http://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/showpost.php?p=14783081&postcount=2552
2 minors

At this point I'd given up documenting them I think as I can't seem to find posts

Test #5
Too close to a parked car, though I didn't hit it!

Test #6
Haven't written what this one was all about. Car was parked in front of a bus stop at the beginning of the test. A bus pulled up into the stop, I had a good look and was about to move off. As soon as I moved off a car was overtaking the bus, obviously as I was right in front of the bus it hadn't anticipated me being there since it hadn't seen me. Ended up having to overtake me too as I was too close in front of the bus. A car was coming from the opposite direction and the overtaking car was in trouble as it was in the wrong lane. Got a serious for that.
Otherwise, 4 minors.

Test #7
http://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/showpost.php?p=24830683&postcount=200
http://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/showpost.php?p=24842689&postcount=5114
http://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/showpost.php?p=25857156&postcount=505

Failed on mirrors and hesitation, can't remember how many minors unfortch!

Test #8 THE ONE
http://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/showpost.php?p=35673058&postcount=3547
http://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/showpost.php?p=35688917&postcount=3558
Finally, legitimately posted in here

So, don't give up folks.

Sorry I actually HAD to make a thread on it. It was nearly a week ago now, and I'm still chuffed :') Just basically, don't give up! :yy:

To be honest, I don't think you should be allowed to drive if you failed 8 times. There should be a 3 test limit on learner drivers.

There's no way variable factors can make you fail 8 times in a row.

Well if you have a look, it was over a period of 4 years. The first 5 in 5 months. Then 2 in one year. I had a year's break and practised and did my 8th one. And only three minors ie. she found it hard to fault me on much. So I'd say practice makes perfect :hand:

Wow. 8th time Jesus. I passed 1st time with 2 minors in 16 lessons at 17 .
But seriously 8 times ?? how many lessons did you have ?

8 x £120 = £960 + Lessons . wow.

My lessons were quite stop and start so I've sorta lost count. I think I must have had about 150ish over the period of 5 years. Each lesson being 2 hours (1 hour is £20) apart from the very short time I was with BSM who charged £50 for two hours. Don't. Like. Thinking. About. How. Much. I've. Spent. :pain:

That is unbelievable. I'm still in shock .Majority of them have passed 1st time round . Still a couple to go, and if they fail the jokes on him haha.

My sister has her test soon, just showed her this thread and she's ****ting it now .

Wouldn't get in a car with you.

Huge costs as well.

It cost me less to pass my test than it did for OP/YOU to pay for JUST the 8 tests lmao!!!

Nah that's not a downer. Law of average says that OP will pass at some stage, not really perseverance. OP shouldn't be allowed to drive lol

Alright alright I get it! It'd cost most people less also, not just you. But you're wrong on that about law of averages, it's the quality of driving that shows with the 3 minors.
Jesus. Wouldn't want to get in a car with you either thanks, cocky as hell :pain: It's just a motivational thread, why do ya have to be such a tit for? Boo you :frown:

Ok...

Well done for passing after 8 attempts of the driving test...

It's nice after waiting so long to open your wallet/purse and see a pink card.

And finally having your own car. Even though you're too preoccupied with exams to touch it, it's nice that it's there. And you have regular look outside the window to remind yourself it ain't a dream it's finally happened.

Then Road Tax, Insurance and Maintenance costs bring you back down to Earth. At least that's what it's like for me. Only passed last month.

For me learning to drive was boring/frustrating because I don't take much interest in cars and I didn't pick driving up naturally like some people do. Thank God I passed first time.

gosh some of these post are soo rude.

op thank you for this thread! i think i may get back into driving!

So the test is sufficient in proving that a driver can't drive, but cannot prove that a driver can drive? What I mean is, you're happy for the test to be of such a good standard that it can prove when a driver is not suitable for the road, but it is not acceptable enough to prove that a driver is of a high enough standard to drive?

It doesn't matter how many times a driver has taken the test (within reason), a pass is a pass. You may say that driver got lucky on the test they actually passed, but what's to say a driver who passed first time round didn't just happen to get their 'lucky day' on their first test?

Sorry, it's nothing against you, I'm just really tetchy about this sort of thing

I'm honestly happy for you OP.

Ignore the negative comments.

You've gone through a lot and deserved that pass :hugs:
