Private Defence reform

Hello, first post.

I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction with regards reform proposals (not necessarily official ones) that have been put forward in regards the law of private defence in the context of intruders in the home.

So far i've got that the level of force a homeowner may use in order to protect their property from an intruder should be increased to allow them to use anything other than 'grossly disproportionate' force.

That a new defence should be allowed where by a homeowner who has used excessive force may plead "excessive force", which would reduce a murder conviction to one of manslaughter, thus allowing a judge to take into account mitigating factors in sentencing.

a few more percieved problems with the current law would be a great help. Any ideas?

Cheers

Sam
