The best book for "Everything in a nutshell, ina small volume" would be "Buddhism: A short introduction" by Damian Keown. It's a tiny littl book that kinda explains all the basics.

hey, my teacher is actually a Vajriyana buddhist of the Kagyu, Mahayana tradition and he gives us some really good advice ! there is one book, really recently out that matches your description and i'll find out what it is but the ultimate source on Buddhism is an introduction to Buddhism by Peter Harvey. Denise Cush is wrong in some parts of her analogy. i'll post that guide when i found out the name

Ta very much, I have ordered Harvey's book... Would be handy if I had a buddhist teacher, however she does own more books on Buddhism than the library do, she buys them all the time
