Re: The Liverpool FC Thread VII

A thread from the debate forums about the Alan Davies comments on Hillsborough. Quite a lot of hate towards Liverpool fans.
However, I don't think anyone should face the death threats that Davies has received, that seems just a bit extreme. You can disagree with his views and argue against them, but threatening to kill him is about as far removed from the memory of Hillsborough as you can be.
However I still think we shouldn't play on the anniversary of Hillsborough.Last edited by Angry cucumber; 11-04-2012 at 00:50. -
Re: The Liverpool FC Thread VIIHave you seen what some of the fans are saying? It's embarrassing to support the same club as them. He's entitled to his opinion but delivered it very poorly. He's acknowledged that and apologised. Their reaction is doing no one any favours; not the justice campaign and definitely not LFC.(Original post by Angry cucumber)

Re: The Liverpool FC Thread VIII'm not too sure about this anniversary thing, I'm not a liverpool fan. But I'm sure that like that guy said united play on the day of the munich disaster. I think that you should be allowed the option to play or not play on the day though. I would personally say get on with it. But after such an event, the fans and the club should have a say on whether they are allowed to play. E.g. steven gerrards cousin died in the hillsborough disaster. He wouldn't like to play on that day.(Original post by Angry cucumber)

Although I guess it's the controversy about the day which is what makes the liverpool fans so enraged but there have been loads of disasters like this with many clubs and they play on the day without a problem.
Sorry if I sound insensitive but this is how I see it. You can't change it now though, so we might as well leave it. It's like saying flights in new york should all be postponed on the 11th of september in remembrance of 9/11, which is controversial as well as it could have been prevented. It's inconvenience so they'll make people fly on that day, same way that if it's convenient for the fans to go there and play on the anniversary they should play on that day.
Maybe because I'm pissed that the FA care more about a united match than chelsea's stupid fixture list that they could easily make better for us but the point still stands, maybe until you get proper justice for the disaster, you shouldn't play on the day.Last edited by jam277; 11-04-2012 at 04:02. -
Re: The Liverpool FC Thread VIINot playing football and stopping flights are completely different. It's not like the game is ignored and we just don't turn up, the FA schedule it so that we don't play on the 15th. I don't understand the fuss really. Like you said, you should be allowed to honour it how you want to. If United do play, then good for them. If Juventus play, good for them. But we just don't and never have done and probably never will. A lot of Liverpool fans would rather drop out of the FA cup then play on the 15th which just goes to show how strongly they feel about it.(Original post by jam277)

And your point at the end exactly, Davies should be having a moan at the FA not Liverpool. If Tottenham/Chelsea played at the Emirates and Liverpool/Everton played at Old Trafford or St James's Park, we could play on the same day. Everything would be easier for everyone involved. Having the semi's at Wembley is naff anyway, takes some of the shine away from the actual final. -
Re: The Liverpool FC Thread VIIFair enough. I can't argue with that. I fully understand why you guys don't wanna play. I guess the fans have the final say so if they refuse for them to play, the FA can't say anything.(Original post by lifeshard)

Re: The Liverpool FC Thread VIII have no anti liverpool agenda. I just don't see why some have to play on a day where a similar disaster happens e.g. munich or heysel while you guys aren't, but as I said earlier, the club should have the say in whether they should play on a certain day, so you guys don't want to play on the 15th, then fine, you have a good enough reason not to play on that day.(Original post by Pn94)
Anti-Liverpool agenda is what fuels people's opinions concerning not playing on the 15th.Last edited by jam277; 11-04-2012 at 04:26. -

They don't have to play on those days. It's just that they do, we don't. It's not as if we're an exception to the rule. -
Re: The Liverpool FC Thread VIIBut you're being rational about it, you clearly aren't outraged by the fact that we don't play. Unlike others who are acting like it's just Liverpool fans trying to act like victims or some other twisted way to think it's a bad thing to not be playing and we should be made to stop the nonsense. When it's not even about being a Liverpool fan, it's about those 96 people that died. Ffs.(Original post by jam277)

Re: The Liverpool FC Thread VIITbh Hanley was poor yesterday, he climbed over, grabbed and fouled a lot of players (mainly Carroll) in trying to win the ball in the air and failed miserably. Haven't seen close up replays but it looked like six of one and half a dozen of the other with Skrtel and Hanley fouling each other.(Original post by Vintage)
Absolute blatant foul on Hanley from Skrtel for Andy Carroll's winner yesterday. Another absolute pathetic mistake costing a bottom team vital points in staying up.
I would of laughed my absolute poop hole off if Brad Jones had been sent off also.

Re: The Liverpool FC Thread VIIAh well, makes up for Danny Simpson's absolutely blatent handball at the Sports Direct Arena the other week then doesn't it? Penalty and red card that.(Original post by Vintage)

Re: The Liverpool FC Thread VIIhttps://twitter.com/#!/BenSmithBBC/s...01501316456448Premier League confirm #LFC do not have the grounds to apply to sign a goalkeeper on emergency loan before FA Cup semi-final
Guess its Brad Jones in goal then. -
Re: The Liverpool FC Thread VIIThey showed Brad Friedel getting sent of for Liverpool for something similar to Doni's but after an appeal it got rescinded, obviously it's probably too much too ask for the FA to be consistent but we should at least try.(Original post by mr tim)

And I'm finding it hard to criticise Jones, I heard he's just got a new kid as well

Why am I not surprised that mau5 is there

Torres basically ran and tripped over Brad Friedal who had come out and then stopped - no way he could have gotten out of the way and yet got red carded.
Doni actively moved into Hoilett who nicked the ball away from him.
Imo it's different enough that it won't get rescinded. -
Re: The Liverpool FC Thread VIII agree with this. Back in the day the final was only held at Wembley with semi finals at i think Old Trafford and Villa park.(Original post by lifeshard)

With both Spurs & Chelsea london teams it should be held say Emirates and Everton/Liverpool at Old Trafford.
Or make a travel and do it at St James' Park which is more neutral over a strong rival's ground.
BUT. The FA are trying to claw back some of the money they wasted on wembley... -
Re: The Liverpool FC Thread VIIAh fair play, I just looked at it again. (4 minutes onwards if anyone wants to see the red)(Original post by Zerforax)

Edit: I still stand by thinking Flanagan's first yellow was harsh.Last edited by Deshi; 11-04-2012 at 11:53.
