Re: The Liverpool FC Thread VII(Original post by MartinKellyisagod)
The negativity towards Roy here is disgusting, he gave his time and best efforts to our club and it didn't work out; that's not to say he's not still a decent manager, he's a nice guy too. I wish him the best of luck
Do you not remember the amount of crap he used to mkae us suffer through? Not even the playing style of the fact we were lumbered with Joe Cole on £90,000 a week for three years. But the utter balls he used to state during his press conferences, things like what Deshi posted in the other thread, such as wanting Ferguson to forgive him for managing Liverpool.

Re: The Liverpool FC Thread VII£100m and a league cup, which you guys won by a fluke. and a fa cup final - which you may not win?
losing to wigan, drawing against blackburn, buying henderson, carroll [for £35m and not even playing him much] and other terrible, doing badly at the suarez-evra affair, behind your local rivals, closer to relegation than top 4, anfield no longer a fortress. even the likes of Fulham, norwich, west brom are not too far off
I think all the above may have just pushed the good things, trophies away. any other manager would have been sacked by now. you guys treated roy harshly - didn't even give him a season, you had new owners and within 3 months, he got sacked. very unfair! -
Re: The Liverpool FC Thread VIIHe said a load of retarded stuff but that still doesn't mean we should hold a grudge and want him to fail(Original post by Mess.)

Re: The Liverpool FC Thread VIIHow did we win the league cup by a fluke? How stupid and devoid of any footballing knowledge are you? So we beat Exeter, Brighton, Stoke, Chelsea, Manchester City (I think we are still the only team to win at the Etihad) over two legs and finally Cardiff on penalties by a fluke? We were never going to beat Cardiff 5-0 in a cup final. They wanted it just as much, if not more than us. I bet if we don't win the FA cup final by 5 goals it'll be a fluke in your book as well.(Original post by lol_this)

Yes we've done badly this season, you don't need to paint it out. 8th in the league says it all. But way Roy had us playing was a world away from how we are doing now. Did we dominate one game under Roy? No we didn't. That's the difference. We can see potential and room for improvement under this Liverpool manager. We can see that we've lost and drawn games under such small margins. Under Roy we were completely submissive and over run by every team that played us. Not to mention his disgusting attitude, THAT is the difference. If you don't get it, you don't need to.
Just because the team isn't doing well now doesn't mean that in hindsight we should have kept Roy or that he has been treated badly. He DID do badly, he DESERVED to be sacked and on top of all that he wasn't one of the greatest british players and managers of all time and a living LEGEND either. It's teensy weensy BIT DIFFERENT.Last edited by lifeshard; 29-04-2012 at 21:21. -

Re: The Liverpool FC Thread VIIand i can assure you that if roy had dominated games, spent loads on terrible signings and got you to two cup finals, you'd want his head. fact is its all about the results in football. utd dont always dominate games, but they win. and all those draws and losses at anfield you dominated games and you didn't win. the fact that kenny spent all that money, to which he admitted it was his signings tells you all. your owners said that anything less than 4th is unacceptable. even with roy in charge last season, you were better off at this point, minus the carling cup and fa cup run.(Original post by lifeshard)

you aint getting any top players this way, the likes of aguero, ba, cisse, rooney type of players would rather want cl than europa. so all that leaves you with is yet another average brits who come from championships/midtable clubs and the same thing will happen next season. kenny paniced buy carroll, the most expensive player, and yet doesn't even play him. no wonder he is terrible, because he ain't played much. kuyt and maxi are looking to leave. your best players may soon leave, and you may soon be relegated - something you didn't want under hodgson.
also its not like you dominated recently. you dominated all season, and who was supposed to change that? kenny? why hasnt he done anything about it? he had a chance to buy jelavic - now look. he scored more than adam, downing, henderson etc soon will catch up on suarez, and was much cheaper than carroll, and some of the terrible players kenny bought. and everton are even above you in the league because of this, you were like 13-14 points ahead before 2012. now 2 points behind.
lucas was injured, shelvey was recalled, where he was doing well at blackpool, he isn't doing that great at lfc.
from a midfield of Masch-Alonso-Gerrard to a midfield of Gerrard-Adam-Henderson - i think you were much better back in the days than you are now - back then you would have possibly won the games you dominated, and possibly were better fighting for top 4 and in cl. now your fighting for fa cup, and top half of the table, or even to finish above everton how times change. -
Re: The Liverpool FC Thread VIII already know all of this. I realize that dominating games isn't the same as winning but it is a step towards that. If we were being run over every game things would look very bleake right now and i'd have no hope but we are playing well, a few more signings and we should improve drastically. Also, none of that has anything to do with Roy. The comparisons are unwarranted. The fact also is that Roy did not do any of those things, we did not go on to two cup finals. He did buy terribly. We played terribly. He's proved at Fulham and West Brom that he is a midtable manager capable only of keeping his team above the drop zone whereas Kenny has won 3 league titles with Liverpool and another with Blackburn. He is one of only 3 managers in the premier league right now who has WON the Premier League. He is capable of great things. He is a born winner. He is not one of Britains greatest players of all time and a living Liverpool legend for no reason. With Kenny there looks to be a light at the end of the tunnel. With Roy we were at the bottom of a swamp.(Original post by lol_this)

Eh, at this point last season Kenny was in charge and he had pulled us up from 12th place, a few points above the drop zone (Roy) and into 6th with an outside chance of fourth. Second on the form table from when he took over. Kenny has shown us what he is capable of. And everything Roy has achieved in his career points to nothing but mediocrity. Yes he has made mistakes, yes I am upset with our league positioning. Yes I want us to win more games but your reasoning is in the nicest way possible, childish to say the least.
looooooool okay. I think this is more of what YOU want then what will really happen. Get your head out of the clouds and think objectively.(Original post by lol_this)

Yes we collapsed after the players realized fourth was unattainable. We have gone a reprehensible run of form, I realize that. There is no guarentee that Jelavic would have succeeded with us anyway. He would not have been our long term solution. I concur that we should have bought a striker in January but I don't think the one we would have liked was available so we didn't buy. We did not want to enter another Carroll situation. Buying a striker for the sake of having a striker. I would much prefer we go out and look for real quality in the summer.(Original post by lol_this)

Re: The Liverpool FC Thread VIIPRSOM.(Original post by ChrisWilliams)
It wouldn't let me thumbs up that post. It's up there with people who call Atletico Madrid, Athletico.
WRT signings, what's been the net spend since FSG took over? That'll basically be your upper limit for this summer, if those on loan are shipped out permanently. It can obviously be supplemented by sales. Are there any players out of contract this summer? Perma-injured? [Aurelio] -
Re: The Liverpool FC Thread VIIIt has been about £35m only taking in to account transfer fees. We have lowered our wage bill though, which I imagine will be lowered further this season once Kuyt, Maxi and hopefully Cole and Aquilani leave at the minimum. Hopefully Carraghers contract gets renegotiated as well as he is one of our highest paid players(Original post by Kevmeister)

Re: The Liverpool FC Thread VIIIt's about £40/50m net spend, which is well within our means and they've apparently knocked about £14/15m off the wage bill last season as well. I think only Aurelio is out of contract from the first team squad this summer, but I'm sure we'll see a fair few more leave from the reserves as well.(Original post by Kevmeister)
