Re: The Liverpool FC Thread VII
Didn't Balague say a couple weeks ago that Dalglish's job was safe? Not saying that the rumours about Txiki are true but I would be extremely surprised if he wasn't even contacted by FSG considering he took the job at Barcelona when they were in a situation like ours (failed to even qualify for the CL) and during his reign have become one of the greatest club sides, some would say, of all time. . . It would be a very attractive option for them and if it is true that someone like David Dien is advising them (which people seem to be treating as fact when I have no idea where it's come from) than surely a man like Txiki would be if not top of the list, somwhere on it.
I personally think they already have a DOF in place otherwise they wouldn't be interviewing managers considering they know nothing about football, or at least not enough to be looking for the man to bring the Liverpool we know back. The fact that they've just rather unceremoniously sacked someone who many consider the second most important man in Liverpools history suggests to me that they have a plan that they believe will work already in place. They wouldn't take such a massive leap of faith otherwise. Hopefully. -
Re: The Liverpool FC Thread VIIWell you won't like my answer but I think Lambert Martinez or Rodgers are all good options.(Original post by Jim-Jam)
Agree. But who replaces him? Martinez? MASSIVE risk tbh. No experience with this, smaller time manager. They've just left it a minefield with no obvious candidates.
it has to be Rafa?!
Established guys won't come, and why would they? Of course I mean that in the nicest way, but you are a team in transition it is too much of a risk for the guardiolas of the world. You have to be willing to gamble, and god loves a gambler. I truly believe with good backing any of the above would be excellent managers. Managers do have to make a name for themselves but they need the team who is willing to take a risk, and enough don't have that opportunity.
All of the three mentioned have prem experience and their teams can play good football, they are good tactically and seem to be relatively good man managers. Look at the way Wigan played at the end of the season. swansea beat city and were tactically great. Norwich played incredibly at the swamp, he even got grant Holt scoring!!!!! ; ) imagine what they could do with investment and a team like Liverpool -

Some of you are not going to be happy: Sky Sports News confirm Liverpool have approached Martinez...
I'm not saying he is bad, I'm not snubbing him. He is pretty good.
I just personally don't think it will work. -
Re: The Liverpool FC Thread VIIHis Steven Gerrard is impeccable. Jamie Carragher is pretty good too.(Original post by Dreamweaver)
All this talk about bringing back Rafa made me remember this video:

Twatted them. The football we played that night was insatiable! -
Re: The Liverpool FC Thread VII
I don't know why but I am warming to the idea of Martinez, the only thing I worry about is the hostility of some Liverpool fans. Honestly been trolling some forums and twitter and what some so called fans are saying is just ridiculous. Then they have the nerve to say the Liverpool Way is gone, yeah because of people like you!
I know the sacking of Dalglish was not done properly and the official statement didn't do much to help that but even the most sought after and well respected people in world football (yes even Mourinho) in footbals current climate would have questions asked of them if they took a club wanting CL football to 17 points off fourth.
Honestly for a while there I couldn't remember what it was like to win a game. And when we lost I couldn't even find the energy to be shocked or upset. It was met with apathy and that is saying something when you're supporting Liverpool, a club who were European Champions in the last decade.
He steadied us. He helped us when we were in free fall. He brought the feel good factor back to Anfield. He gave us two great days at Wembley that will be remembered forever. We broke the silverware drought. He's still the King. Ffs some of the crap that was on talksport earlier left me fuming. Hopefully whoever the new manager is, he's backed to the hilt. Because that's what we should be doing. -
Re: The Liverpool FC Thread VIIThat day, was one of the best days of my being a Liverpool supporter. We were just stunning. The Madrid team was nowhere near as talented as this one but they were no slouchs. And its REAL MADRID, arguably the biggest club in the world.(Original post by ChrisWilliams)

The whole world was looking at us green with envy!
Also, Torres & Gerrard. I miss that so much.
And I forgot how soft that penalty was hahaLast edited by lifeshard; 17-05-2012 at 22:25. -

I said Manager instead of owners, my fault. I realized pretty much straight after I posted it. You were just to quick on the draw =P
I'm happy that they are moving quickly
I never had a problem with them except for how long it seems to have taken them to do things but at least today we have started to pick up
Btw has anyone else realised how surreal it is to know who are DoC is and even worse, to actually care about who it is
What a nonsense the corporate side of the club has become

Re: The Liverpool FC Thread VIIHahaha no chance dude but it would be incredible.(Original post by Pn94)
I'm dreaming, but this would make me jizz uncontrollably if it was to ever happen:
I'm 80% sure the manager will be Martinez. Not saying that in an 'ITK' way but when it's everywhere like this and it's been confirmed he has actually been contacted and it's not speculation like AVB etc it is more than likely going to happen. We should just get used to the idea and think of some positives.
Maybe he can be our Pep?

They couldn't have shifted people any earlier, otherwise with no manager and Clarke would have resigned who would of managed the club in a game? I guess Clarke wouldn't resign straight away and would stay for the game but I would still prefer them to have waited it out like they did.
You might say they could of started interviewing managers faster and what not or made a plan earlier but you know how it is these days if they are spotted with anyone or anything is leaked it pretty much makes everyone lose their nut, we didn't need that it was bad enough. Stay out of the papers, seeing us all the time is making me want to rage because it's always so negative.
I honestly have high hopes with them as I said in a post earlier to Jimjam. We are lucky to have them they could create something great. They have done everything well so far for me, lets just hope they don't **** up all the good work with the wrong manager.
I wanted Benitez and I still do, but if you step back and look at the situation I think it does look good for AVB, been reading stuff on AVB and he seems like very smart and tactical minded. Both of them would make me happy so I have no preferences.
Mind you though Benitez doesn't have chance on his side, what's the chance he will come back and be great again. Not saying it won't happen since records are their to be broken and what not but seems unlikely even though he looks good for the job.Last edited by So Instinct; 17-05-2012 at 22:53.
