Thread For Bangor Language & Linguistics 2012 Applicants
    Howdy.

I thought it might be worth starting up a forum for modern language / English language (and literature? Oh, go on then!) / linguistics students who're due to start in 2012.... Might be nice to have a place to introduce ourselves and so on and so forth?

I'm Keith and I've applied for the pure linguistics course. I'm originally from a VERY small village 30-odd miles away from Bangor, but I've been living in Sheffield since around 1999. One of the main reasons I chose Bangor is 'cause I want to go home! I miss hearing and speaking Welsh. It was by far the best open day experience I had last summer, too (I also visited York and Lancaster). My application's only just gone off - so I've not gotten any kind of offer just yet....

I'll be a 'mature' student - I'm 34 in July. I'm slightly worried about the age difference that'll exist between myself and the rest of the first years. The beardy older chap who lurks about the department, but who isn't a lecturer, will most likely be me.

Not at all sure if I should apply for halls - I'll prob'ly find private accommodation (any other older applicants reading this wanna get in touch and offer yourselves as potential housemate candidates?).

I'm dying to start up a band after I've settled down. Used to be in a group called Navvy which did pretty well - got 7/10 in the NME for our first and only album (9/10 in the Scunthorpe Times).

    Enough.

    K.

Heyy. Best of luck with your application.
I have five offers for French and Liguistics. I'm going to firm York simply because the course is perfect for me and the area is beautiful.
I'll be living in halls (hopefully!).

I also have 5 offers, going to firm Queen Mary University of London, Bangor is myreserve, just loved the area and its the only course that has a Forensic Linguistics module which is what I want to do. There will be another mature student doing Linguistics in 2012, she's really nice, I met her on an Open University Cuurse last summer

Hi, I also received an offer to do an MA in Linguistics at Bangor. However, I am not sure yet if i'll end up going there. I love the school, the program, the area but i've lived there already and I am kinda looking for a new adventure
